We're nearing the end of our series of great films that were nominated for Oscars but didn't win.

Good Night, and Good Luck (93 minutes, ©Warner Bros., 2005) takes place in 1950s America, during the early days of broadcast journalism. It chronicles the real-life conflict between television newsman Edward R. Murrow (David Strathairn, in his Oscar-nominated role) and Senator Joseph McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Rated PG.

This free program will be held in the library's air conditioned 2nd floor meeting room. There is no elevator. Bring your lunch (optional), and we'll provide beverages and dessert.

Registration is required. Please sign up here or call the library at 610-789-4440.

Orphan Train Movement presented by Donna Aviles

New York Times Bestseller Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline has raised interest in this nearly lost piece of American history.  As a grandaughter of orphan train rider Oliver Nordmark, and a member of the National Orphan Train Complex Speakers Bureau.  Donna is uniquely qualified to share the history of this 75 year social experiment.  Her presentation is an interactive PowerPoint discussion.  The audience will hear recordings of Donna's grandfather talking about what it was like to ride the orphan train.
