June's selection is "Pretty Deadly Vol.1" by Kelly Sue DeConnick.

Pretty Deadly is a creator-owned American comic book series by Kelly Sue DeConnick and Spanish artist Emma Ríos, distributed by Image Comics. The story combines elements from western and horror comics, and draws on aspects from mythology and folklore. Pretty Deadly is Deconnick and Ríos' third collaboration, their first being Osborn in 2011 and their second being issues #5 & 6 of the 2012 Captain Marvel series.

The Pretty Deadly creative team was nominated for several Eisner Awards in 2014: DeConnick for Best Writer, Rios for Best Penciller/Inker and Best Cover Artist, and Jordie Bellaire for Best Coloring

The series marries the magical realism of Sandman with the western brutality of Preacher. Death's daughter rides the wind on a horse made of smoke and her face bears the skull marks of her father. Her origin story is a tale of retribution as beautifully lush as it is unflinchingly savage.

Copies are availabe for checkout at the Lansdowne Library's circulation desk

George Pagano and his teammate Caitlin Miller rowed across the Atlantic Ocean in the 2015 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. They left from La Gomera in the Canary Islands and travelled 3000 miles to Antigua in the Caribbean. They were a self-sustaining boat and received no assistance in their crossing, which took 2 months. They left the Canaries in December 2015 and arrived in Antigua in February of 2016. They set the World Records for fastest and youngest mixed pair to row across the Atlantic. In this presentation, George will show two videos, one at the beginning of the presentation and one at the end. They will give the audience a good idea of his ocean rowing journey and highlight key events (the hurricane, the sea life, rowing at night). There will be time for questions at the end.

The Ridley Township Public Library is offering a free Basic Meditation Workshop led by Rich Conti from the Schoolhouse Center Meditation Group. Participants are free to stay for the entire 2 hours, or may choose to leave after 1 hour or more. In this workshop,  you will learn all you need to practice meditation on your own, at home.

Meditation requires no extensive training, preparation or effort. It is simple, easy and anyone can do it. A simple commitment of a few minutes a day can make a real difference in a person’s life by helping to clear the mind and reduce stress. The best way to learn about meditation is for someone to show you what to do and how to do it.

Aston Public Library
presents
Chair Tai Chi -“Tai Chi Chih©”

Every Thursday - May 25 to June 29th
at 2:00 pm

Interested participants will be introduced to “Tai Chi Chih©”, a moving meditation. It is easy to learn, and doesn’t require a particular level of physical fitness or coordination.  Consisting of 19 movements and one pose, TCC attracts  the widest audience because even those with physical limitations can participate, performing the movements while seated.  During the six one hour sessions, participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice, basic movements while seated, with an accredited Tai Chi Chih teacher, Sr. Christa Marie Thompson.
The body of high quality medical evidence providing sound arguments for practicing TCC is growing along with TV, newspaper, magazine, and “Web” accounts of the wide ranging health benefits  regular practitioners have gained.
Studies linking TCC to positive changes in all of the following:
Arthritis                                                COPD
Depression & Anxiety                        Immune System
General Health                                   Increased Energy
Healthy Aging                                     Pain Relief
Healthy Weight                                  Peace and Joy

Come and exprience how this EASY, gentle moving meditation can dissolve tension, reduce chronic pain, improve balance, increase focus and  JOY!

This is a health literacy program of the PA Forward Initiative.

JFK's assassination on November 22, 1963 has often been cited as the cause of the Beatles' sudden popularity in the United States. The logic: Kennedy's assassination made America sad, then the Beatles made it happy again. But, this logic is overly simplistic. The real answer is that Kennedy's life and eath inadvertently primed the nation for the Beatles' arrival and success. This 60 minute mulitmedia presentation will explain how and why. It will be presented by Aaaron Krerowicz, the only professional Beatles scholar in the United States. This is a Civic and Social Literacy Program of the PA Forward Initiative.

This is a health literacy program of the PA Forward Initiative.
