Join us as we adventure through Roald Dahl's Matilda. Each week, Miss Devon will read aloud from the book while we all draw, write, play games, and act out scenes from the story. At the end of the series, we will watch the film version of this beloved children's novel.

This class is for 3rd - 5th graders. Registration is required.

More about the book: "Matilda is a sweet, exceptional young girl, but her parents think she's just a nuisance. She expects school to be different but there she has to face Miss Trunchbull, a kid-hating terror of a headmistress. When Matilda is attacked by the Trunchbull she suddenly discovers she has a remarkable power with which to fight back. It'll take a superhuman genius to give Miss Trunchbull what she deserves and Matilda may be just the one to do it!"

Roald Dahl's Matilda won the Children's Book Award shortly after it was published in 1988, and it has continued to delight audiences ever since.

(The children in our previous session of afterschool book club suggested and unanimously chose this novel for our summer session!)

Come enjoy a movie with the family at the Library!
Each week, we will feature a different sports-themed movie!  Join us on the second floor for a relaxing and fun way to start your weekend.

This week's movie is:  Happy Feet (2007) 109 minutes
Emperor Penguins from Antarctica each express their true love with a special heartsong of their own that expresses their very being. However, the misfit Mumble cannot sing. Instead he has an extraordinary talent to tap dance with almost magical energy and expression. Nevertheless, the leadership of the colony fearfully blames the young penguin's unorthodox ways for the lean fishing that threatens them all. Defiant in the face of unjust rejection, Mumble and his true friends set out to find the true cause of the famine. Through the friends trials and perils, Mumble learns many things about his frozen world, not the least of which being that his toe tapping talent may be what he needs to save his people.

This week's movie is:  Ratatouille (2007) 111 minutes
A rat named Remy dreams of becoming a great chef despite his family's wishes and the obvious problem of being a rat in a decidedly rodent-phobic profession. When fate places Remy in Paris, he finds himself ideally situated beneath a restaurant made famous by his culinary hero. Despite the apparent dangers of being an unwanted visitor in the kitchen of one of Paris' most exclusive restaurants, Remy forms an unlikely partnership with Linguini, the garbage boy, who inadvertently discovers Remy's amazing talents. They strike a deal, ultimately setting into motion a chain of extraordinary events that turns the culinary world of Paris upside down.

A first library experience.

Children and adults will engage in a repetition of rhymes, fingerplays, stories, songs and movement to encourage language and early literacy skills. Play is how children learn best, so the literacy segment of the program is followed by a playgroup. Using age appropriate toys, children and adults can focus on  distraction free time together. We conclude our time together with a circle time of songs and goodbyes.

Read-Ercise w/ Toddlers

In this Toddler story time, kids act out the books as they are being read, making them feel part of the story!  Stories, songs, fingerplays, rhymes, and toys help toddlers learn and love to read!

Tuesdays at 10:30am. Registration is NOT required.

(Children learn best through role modeling. Caregivers are asked to be great role models and be attentive and engaged in the story time. Side conversations can take place during free play. Thanks!)
