Chair Tai Chi -“Tai Chi Chih©”

Every Thursday - January 25th to March 1st, 2018

Interested participants will be introduced to “Tai Chi Chih©”, a moving meditation. It is easy to learn, and doesn’t require a particular level of physical fitness or coordination.  Consisting of 19 movements and one pose, TCC attracts  the widest audience because even those with physical limitations can participate, performing the movements while seated.  During the six one hour sessions, participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice, basic movements while seated, with an accredited Tai Chi Chih teacher, Sr. Christa Marie Thompson.

Studies linking TCC to positive changes in all of the following:
Arthritis                                                COPD

Come and join us for some amazing stories, songs and age appropriate crafts. Each week our story times will be enriched with an educational theme.

Our theme this week is valuing our differences. Enjoy learning about how cool our differences are through our stories and fun activities/crafts.

We will end each story time with our traditional book trek around the library finding all the books we want to take home from the children's department.

We will also make a pit stop at our story time themed book display to continue our learning from home.

The body of high quality medical evidence providing sound arguments for practicing TCC is growing along with TV, newspaper, magazine, and “Web” accounts of the wide ranging health benefits  regular practitioners have gained.
Studies linking TCC to positive changes in all of the following:
Arthritis                                                COPD

"PAWS for Reading is a program that allows children to read aloud to a therapy dog (or cat, or bunny!) in order to improve reading and communication skills. Children read individually to trained therapy pets (and their handlers) in schools, libraries, or other settings where they can feel comfortable and confident — and have fun! After all, a dog will not correct them or make them feel awkward if they stumble."

MFL is a participating library in PAWS for Reading program! We have enough spaces per visit for 12 kids/readers. We recommend ages 5+ (or any one who can read aloud).

Winter 2018 Dates for PAWS for Reading:

Wednesdays @ 6:30pm

January 3rd, February 7th, March 14th, April 4th

Saturdays @ 2pm

January 6th, February 10th, March 10th, April 7th

CLICK HERE TO RESERVE YOUR SPOT(S)!

Readers are limited to 10 minutes of reading aloud to a pet, but can read on their own or color while waiting. Register to reserve a spot for your young reader using his/her name. Click "Add Guest" to add spot(s) for siblings.

The 10-minute time slots will be done on a first come, first to sign up on site at the library on the day of the visit.

If you register but do not show-up without notice, you will forfeit any future sign-ups for this program.

Those unable to sign up are welcome to come and take any open space that may happen from no-shows.

Depression & Anxiety                        Immune System
General Health                                   Increased Energy
Healthy Aging                                     Pain Relief

Aston Public Library
presents

Depression & Anxiety                        Immune System
General Health                                   Increased Energy
Healthy Aging                                     Pain Relief
Healthy Weight                                  Peace and Joy

Come and exprience how this EASY, gentle moving meditation can dissolve tension, reduce chronic pain, improve balance, increase focus and  JOY

Aston Public Library
presents

Depression & Anxiety                        Immune System
General Health                                   Increased Energy
Healthy Aging                                     Pain Relief
Healthy Weight                                  Peace and Joy

Come and exprience how this EASY, gentle moving meditation can dissolve tension, reduce chronic pain, improve balance, increase focus and  JOY

Children can come to the library and practice reading to the best listener - a dog! Three therapy dog teams will be at the Swarthmore Public Library to meet with beginning and reluctant readers and to listen to children (Kindergartners and older) read a book of their choice. This is also an ideal opportunity for English language learners.

This very popular program is held two Thursdays each month. Registration required. Each child will get a time slot within the 6:30-7:30 window. Email Mr. Scott at swcsd@delcolibraries.org to request a specific time.
