JFK's assassination on November 22, 1963 has often been cited as the cause of the Beatles' sudden popularity in the United States. The logic: Kennedy's assassination made America sad, then the Beatles made it happy again. But, this logic is overly simplistic. The real answer is that Kennedy's life and eath inadvertently primed the nation for the Beatles' arrival and success. This 60 minute mulitmedia presentation will explain how and why. It will be presented by Aaaron Krerowicz, the only professional Beatles scholar in the United States. This is a Civic and Social Literacy Program of the PA Forward Initiative.

Mike Rose:

Magic Show

Tuesday, July 18th @ 6:30pm

All ages!

"Each year Mike Rose presents hundreds of hilarious magic shows that are seen by thousands of people.  His action packed programs can fill an auditorium or be scaled down to fit in your living room.  Mike is quite skilled at entertaining family audiences.  Working on two levels, Mike simultaneously entertains your young audience members and your adult guests.  While the kids are caught up in the magic and off the wall interactive comedy, the adults are entertained on a second level with inside jokes, situational humor, and obscure references. Sometimes the comedy comes flying at them so fast they have to ask the kids what happened!  So if you want a no-holds-barred comedy show suitable for the whole family, rest assured Mike will meet, and exceed your expectations."

All ages are welcome & registration is not required!

    Contact: Debbie   610-494-5877   debbie@astonlibrary.org

Since 1989, Puppets Pizzazz has been successfully entertaining children of all ages. Each show is carefully geared to entertain, excite, and educate children from about one year old to 10 years old. The show is set up as a variety show with over twenty-five professional hand puppets used to perform nine funny songs and humorous skits. In between each act, there is an MC puppet who comes out and tells jokes and riddles.

Each song or skit is only about two or three minutes long, so it is easy to hold the children’s attention including toddlers! What makes Puppets Pizzazz puppet shows different is that they take popular music from today’s artists and they put a satirical spin on it.

"PAWS for Reading is a program that allows children to read aloud to a therapy dog (or cat, or bunny!) in order to improve reading and communication skills. Children read individually to trained therapy pets (and their handlers) in schools, libraries, or other settings where they can feel comfortable and confident — and have fun! After all, a dog will not correct them or make them feel awkward if they stumble."

MFL is now a participating library in PAWS for Reading program! We have enough spaces per visit for 12 kids/readers. We recommend ages 5+ (or any one who can read aloud), but younger siblings can join!

Summer Dates for PAWS for Reading:

Wednesdays @ 6:30pm

July 12July 19

August 16August 23

***CLICK ON THE DATE(S) YOU'D LIKE TO REGISTER FOR***

Readers are limited to 10 minutes of reading aloud to a pet, but can read on their own or color while waiting. Register to reserve a spot for your young reader using his/her name. Click "Add Guest" to add spot(s) for siblings.

The 10-minute time slots will be done on a first come, first to sign up on site at the library on the day of the visit.

If you register but do not show-up without notice, you will forfeit any future sign-ups for this program.

Those on our wait list are welcome to come and take any open space that may happen from no-shows.
