REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED; PLEASE BE SURE TO REGISTER EACH CHILD SEPARATELY. ALSO, PARENTS/CAREGIVERS DO NOT NEED TO BE REGISTERED, ONLY THEIR CHILDREN.
The Derby Public Library is pleased to announce a new series of programs designed to create opportunities for typical children and children with special needs (in particular, autism) to play, learn, and build friendships.
Children with and without special needs benefit from being in inclusive environments. Studies have shown that inclusive environments allow children to accomplish more than they do in separate environments. When children with special needs have all of the same opportunities that typically developing children have, they are able to strive toward, and often reach, new goals and aspirations. Inclusive, supportive environments teach children about diversity and respecting and valuing other people regardless of their ability.
The program is open to school-age children, but siblings are also welcome to attend. A variety of activities will be offered throughout the series including art, music, games, stories, and more.
NOTE: This program will repeat on Fridays, July 19th, 26th, & August 2nd as well if you're interested.
