Joanne Burke from the UNH Speaker's Bureau, Clinical Assistant Professor in the UNH Eco-Gastronomy program, brings her knowledge of nutrition and sustainability with a program called "Sustainabilty Strategies: From Eating Local to Meal Planning, Strategies to Make Your Meals more Environmentally Friendly" This program is for eveyrone who cares about what they eat and where it comes from.

Nutrition and sustainability are inextricably linked. Healthy soils and waterways and environmentally respectful food production give rise to wholesome foods, supporting our health and nutritional well-being. Social, economic, cultural, and political factors impact food production, access, and health promotion but have not historically considrered the food system used to produce these foods. As we become more aware of how food production and dietary practices impact our environment, it becomes apparent that sustainability must be integrated into nutritional practices.

Adult Summer Reading Program: "Literary Elements" -- the Theme is Science!

Celebrate CHEMISTRY with this SRP program from the New Hampshire Humanities Council.

Glenn A Knoblock, independent scholar, author, and historian  presents a lecture: "Brewing in New Hampshire: An Informal History of Beer in the Granite State from Colonial Times to the Present."

Glenn Knoblock explores the fascinating history of New Hampshire's beer and ale brewing industry from Colonial days, when it was home- and tavern-based, to today's modern breweries and brew pubs. Unusual and rare photos and advertisements document this changing industry and the state's eatliest brewers, including the renowned Frank Jones. A number of lesser-known  brewers and breweries that operated in the state are also discussed, including the only brewery owned and operated by a woman before the modern era. Illustrations present evidence of society's changing attitudes towards beer and alcohol consumptione over the years. Whether your're a beer connoisseur or a "tea-totaler", this lecture will be enjoyed by adults of all ages.

Registration is not required.
