misc_none Adult Summer Reading Program Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend
    Contact: Susan Dunker   603-516-6050   s.dunker@dover.nh.gov

Adults! Join our Summer Reading Program to “Escape the Ordinary” this summer and have some fun. After all, why should the kids be the ones to have all the fun with Summer Reading Programs? If you want to be eligible for prizes, be sure to fill out a review slip either online on our website under Adult Summer reading in the Events Calendar, or in person at the library. This will be your entry to win weekly prize drawings.  We’ll compile the list of what everyone read and share it anonymously so you can find some new titles for your to-read list! This year’s theme highlights heroes, superheroes, and extraordinary people, places, and activities.

Escape the Ordinary and join our adult summer reading program for ages over 18. Sign up for the program at this link or in person at the library and start reading! Weekly prize drawing winners will be drawn from the review slips submitted for each book read during the program (June 29-August 4) only. Submit them online here or fill out a slip at the library. It's so simple!

Any format of book is acceptable. Read, listen, or read an ebook.

Also, each week we’ll have a different quiz or puzzle relating to heroes available at the Circulation Desk for you to pick up and test your knowledge.

Weekly prize drawings will be held and each book read with a completed book review slip will be eligible. Weekly prize winners won’t be eligible to win another weekly prize, but will be eligible for the Grand Prize. To be eligible to win the Grand Prize you must have read at least 5 books.

That’s it! The goal is to have fun, set a good example for any children in your life, and spend a bit more time reading and relaxing this summer.

Grand Prize will be a new Kindle Fire tablet!*

* Must read at least 5 books to be eligible for Grand Prize.

Dover Public Library Teen Summer Reading Program

My Spidey-Sense is tingling in anticipation of the Teen Summer Reading Program!

Here is how it works:

Read and keep track of the number of hours that you read – it’s that simple! For every 2 hours that you read we will give you a raffle ticket that you can put towards one of our prize packs. Some of the prize packs include:  Day Passes to The Works, Laser Tag at Hilltop Fun Center, Free Introductory Lessons at Indoor Ascent, Free Skate Time at Red Alert Indoor Skatepart, a Kindle Fire HD7 Tablet, gift cards to Target, Regal Cinemas, La Festa Pizzeria, Dos Amigos, Strafford Farms, Adelle's Coffee House, Kendall Pond Pizza, Pizza Hut and more! As well as the prize packs there will be weekly raffles – you need to come in once during the week to qualify. You choose what you read – novels, non-fiction, graphic novels, comics or magazines.

The first 50 to sign up receive a free book and the first 100 to sign up get a free pizza at Weeksie's Pizza!

Keep track of the hours that you have read in the booklet provided. Color in the world bubbles. One bubble equals one hour. Bring it to the library as often as you like, but remember you have to read for at least two hours to get a ticket.  Happy reading!

A celebration for all readers enrolled in the summer program and their families will be held on Tuesday, August 4 @ 10:30am.  After grabbing a snack & a drink, find a spot on the lawn to sit and enjoy the music and antics of “The Toe Jam Puppet Band”. Their performance is very active, encouraging kids and parents to sing and dance along with the band as they entertain with a unique combination of original songs, masterful shadow puppetry, and storytelling.  The Toe Jam Puppet Band offers a special brand of hands-on children's entertainment that grown-ups can enjoy too!

    Contact: Susan Dunker   603-516-6050   s.dunker@dover.nh.gov

Local filmmakers will be screening their short film “Through a Glass, Darkly” at the Dover Public Library on Tuesday August 11th at 7pm, followed by a Q&A session with cast and crew members. Produced by Dover Independent Players and filmed in July mainly at Hampton Beach, the film is about Julia, a fifteen year old, who while on vacation at the beach with her older sister, sells her soul to the devil for the magic of the boardwalk. The film is appropriate for teens and adults. You can find updates and behind the scenes videos and photos at Facebook.com/TAGDfilm or on Instagram with the hashtag #TAGDfilm. The Dover Independent Players are a group of former Dover High School students who congregate as colleagues and resources to produce art, music, films, and theater productions. Dover Independent Players previous production, a one-act play called Adopt a Sailor, written by Charles Evered, premiered at the Dover High School in Spring 2013. It starred four students who are major cast or crew members on Through a Glass, Darkly. The film runs about 15 minutes and there will be a Q&A with cast and crew following the screening. Keep in mind when considering bringing younger members of the family that the “rating” would be PG-13.
