misc_none Artist of the Month - Rebecca Harrison Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend
Contact: Dover Public Library   603-516-6050   libraryquestions@dover.nh.gov

Rebecca Harrison has been on a lifelong journey of the love of making art.   She has taken numerous classes in drawing, printmaking, batik, etchings, collage and painting and loved all of it. So today her art is not just what was done today or yesterday but a culmination of all those years.  She loves color, she loves to be whimsical and she finds herself trying over and over again.  To be bold and honest and authentic is of utmost importance to her.

When she paints she is thinking about light, composition, color and intensity. But the light is really the thing. She is drawn to the outdoors and plein air painting in the summer and finds herself in the studio in the winter and a little of both in between.

Rebecca is currently enrolled in the Boston Academy of Realist Art. It is a school steeped in tradition. It is inspiring and educational on a whole new level.

"The wave of 'fake news' that flooded Facebook and other social media during last year's election campaign was a wakeup call. Big changes have overtaken the way we get news in the United States, how newsmakers communicate and how news is produced. These changes have given us the opportunity to be better informed. They also require us to be more careful consumers, so we can recognize distortion, propaganda and outright lies. Join a nonpartisan discussion with White House press veteran Randall Mikkelsen, a managing editor at Thomson Reuters, on how to understand what we are getting in the social-media driven news landscape and how to tell the real from the fake. Stephen Collins returns to the Dover Public Library with his one man show Unlaunch’d Voices, an Evening With Walt Whitman. By the end of this play, the audience will come away feeling as if they know Whitman, feeling as if they have just had a conversation with the poet. Stephen Collins currently performs eight one-man shows. Receiving rave reviews for over a decade, Mr. Collins’s shows deliver not just the poetry and plays, but bring poets and playwrights to life on the stage. His shows also convey an understanding of the impact and the reactions of the characters to their respective times, giving the audience not just a performance, but an experience. This is the 2nd of three shows Stephen Collins will present at the Dover Public Library, in November he will return as the renowned American artist James McNeill Whistler.

This program is free and open to all. For more information, please call the Dover Public Library at 603-516-6050.

"Color Me Included is the result of the three-year historical and spiritual search of minister Deborah Knowlton, as she transcribed clergy records from the Archives of the First Congregational Church of Hampton, New Hampshire. In these handwritten, primary sources, she discovered details of the lives of African Americans, captured over 156 years by twelve ministers. The records informed the author's research, as she rediscovered the names and partial histories of over twenty-seven African American men, women and children of Hampton, Hampton Falls, Kingston, North Hampton, Seabrook, Kensington, Kingston, East Kingston, Sandown, and Danville, New Hampshire."
