Mother Goose on the Loose uses books, rhymes, songs, musical instruments, finger plays, flannel board characters, puppets and other props to help parents/caregivers develop the child’s early literacy skills in a fun and joyful environment.

Dover Public Library Celebrating Computer Science
Education Week with Hour of CodeTM Session

The Library is pleased to host 4 sessions of Hour of Code during Computer Science Education Week, December 5 – 11.  All ages sessions will be held on Monday, December 5 from 6pm to 7pm or 7pm to 8pm.  Sessions for kids in grades 3 and up will be on Saturday, December 10 from 10am to 11am or 11am to 12pm.

  "The Hour of Code is designed to demystify code and show that computer science is not rocket science—anybody can learn the basics," said Hadi Partovi, founder and CEO of Code.org. "Over 100 million students worldwide have tried an Hour of Code. The demand for relevant 21st century computer science education crosses all borders and knows no boundaries."  If you have any questions please call Denise LaFrance at 516-6050.

Register by calling 516-6050 or online at library.dover.nh.gov. Registration is required to use one of the Library’s computers.  No registration is required to use your own laptop.

Laura Piazza, author of Recipes for Repair: A 10-Week Program for Chronic Inflammation and Food Sensitivities will discuss how good nutrition has become an integral part of her treatment of Lyme disease and will share the story behind the creation of her popular health cookbook. The book outlines a successful doctor-written anti-inflammatory diet, strategies on how to incorporate it into your life, and includes 181 delicious recipes that were developed with taste and ease in mind by co-author Gail Piazza (Laura’s mother and professional food stylist and recipe developer).

 

Laura will talk about which foods to avoid or enjoy when suffering chronic inflammation and discuss how nutritional changes can help minimize or eliminate some symptoms of inflammatory or autoimmune conditions, such as Lyme disease, IBS, arthritis, colitis, thyroid disease, or celiac disease. She will wrap up by explaining the importance of prevention and early treatment of Lyme and other tick-borne illnesses. She will provide delicious recipe samples from the book and will have signed copies available for purchase.

Back by popular demand!  Learn to make simple soldered circuits at the Dover Public Library on Tuesday December 13th at 6pm through a partnership project with Port City Makerspace. This is a free library workshop about simple electronics and soldering, which is the process of fusing metals together by melting solder between them. Participants will use a hot soldering iron to melt solder and then fuse LED lights to a robot badge ornament for the tree or a light up 3D Christmas tree! This workshop is open to ages 10 and up, but pre-registration is required. There are 10 spots available. Sign up through the library’s Event Calendar at http://library.dover.nh.gov/ or call the Library at 603-516-6050 to register.

      The workshop will be hosted by Alex from Port City Makerspace (http://www.portcitymakerspace.com/), a non-profit shop that provides tools and workspace to members for a low monthly fee. They offer education aimed at safely utilizing tools and workspaces, and also promote the exchange of ideas. Members work both independently and collaboratively to research ideas, develop projects, and put their heads and hands to good use. They are open to the public at 68 Morning Street in Portsmouth and no experience is necessary. There are lots of reasons that you need tools in your life, and they are willing to help in any way they can.

There is early Oscar buzz for Hugh Grant's performance as Florence's husband whose wealth pays for her career.

Participants will use a hot soldering iron to melt solder and then fuse LED lights to a robot badge ornament for the tree or a light up 3D Christmas tree! This workshop is open to ages 10 and up, but pre-registration is required. There are 10 spots available.       The workshop will be hosted by Alex from Port City Makerspace (http://www.portcitymakerspace.com/), a non-profit shop that provides tools and workspace to members for a low monthly fee. They offer education aimed at safely utilizing tools and workspaces, and also promote the exchange of ideas. Members work both independently and collaboratively to research ideas, develop projects, and put their heads and hands to good use. They are open to the public at 68 Morning Street in Portsmouth and no experience is necessary. There are lots of reasons that you need tools in your life, and they are willing to help in any way they can.

The library will provide pencils, markers and coloring sheets, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own coloring materials.
