misc_none Adult Summer Reading Program Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend
    Contact: Susan Dunker   603-516-6050   s.dunker@dover.nh.gov

It's back! The Adult Summer Reading Program at Dover Public Library is back for the 3rd year. The theme this year is "Build a Better World". Adult patrons aged 18 and over can register here for the program. Once registered, keep track of the books read over the 6 week program and for each book read with a book review submitted, an entry to win some fabulous weekly prizes will be submitted. New this year, is the ability to choose which of our three weekly prize packages you'd like to win. The online form will list the three prizes and you just select the radio button next to the one you want to win! If you drop off slips at the library, look for the list of the current week's prizes and let staff know which prize you'd like your entry to go towards. As an added incentive to write a short, but thoughtful review, we'll have small prizes for the best reviews of each week, so get creative!

In addition to prizes from the local businesses listed below, our Grand Prize this year will be $100 in Dover Dollars which can be spent in over 20 local businesses. What a great way to Build a Better World by buying locally! So sign up, and grab a bookmark and get reading! See the library's website for more information or ask staff at the Circulation Desk.

Thank you to this year's prize sponsors: Cowlicks Ice Cream, Chipotle, 2 Home Cooks, 7th Settlement Brewery, Adelle's Coffeehouse, Applebee's, Aubuchon's Hardware, Bending Bodhi Yoga Studio, Bull Moose Music, Cinco de Mayo Bar and Gille, Diversions Puzzles and Games, Fat Dog Kitchen, Flight Coffee Co., Hackmatack Playhouse, Home Depot, Margarita's Mexican Restaurant, Pear Tree Gifts, Portable Pantry, Portsmouth Music Hall, Red's Shoe Barn, RiverRun Bookstore, Spinning Yarns, Subway, The Farm Bar and Grille and Weathervane. A special thank you to the Friends of the Dover Public Library for supporting the program.

Contact: Dover Public Library   603-516-6050   libraryquestions@dover.nh.gov

Celebrate 20 Years of Harry Potter at the Dover Public Library!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to take a stroll down Diagon Alley? Imagine walking into Ollivanders to pick out your wand or Flourish and Blotts to collect your Hogwarts school books. Maybe you’d even swing by Sugarplum’s Sweets Shop to fill your sugar craving.

Join us at the Dover Public Library for a trip down Diagon Alley on Saturday, July 29 from 9am to 12pm for an early celebration of Harry Potter’s birthday. The event will end with a Harry Potter trivia competition at 12 pm.

Attendees will receive their very own acceptance letter to Hogwarts and be sent on their way to Diagon Alley to collect their school supplies. Stops include Ollivanders to make wands; Quality Quidditch Supplies to practice the famous wizarding sport; Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions to finger-knit a scarf; Flourish and Blotts to make a mini Monster Book of Monsters; Scribbulus Writing Instruments to create a writing quill; and Magical Menagerie to decorate a dragon egg.

Individuals are invited to dress in their finest witch and wizard wardrobes to participate in a costume contest for a Harry Potter gift basket. Photos of costume participants will be taken throughout the day and then voted on by the public on the library’s website until Tuesday, August 1.  Another gift basket will be awarded to the winning team in the Harry Potter trivia competition.

In addition, witches and wizards are asked to bring a non-perishable item for the “Feed the Muggles!” Food Drive. All donations will go to the Community Action Partnership of Strafford County’s food pantry. The drive is sponsored by OWLS, a local community service group affiliated with the library and a chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance.

Harry Potter Day is free and open to the public. For more information about the celebration activities, visit http://library.dover.nh.gov or call the Dover Public Library at 603-516-6050.

Join us for monthly game night every Third Wednesday of the  month. We provide the games and snacks; you bring the fun, yourselves! The program is free and open to the public. We are always in need of volunteers to help on game night. Please call the Library at 603-516-6050 or email Susan at s.dunker@dover.nh.gov if you'd be willing to help.
