Job searching and learning express, part 2

This two part class teaches basic job search and computer skills. While any job seeker will find useful information in the class, it is designed particularly for those who struggle to complete the technology-related tasks required in a modern job search, such as creating and e-mailing resumes and cover letters, and using the online resource Learning Express Library.
Session 1 will cover basic Microsoft Word skills to create a basic cover letter and resume.Session 2 will include information about using email and online forms, plus a chance to create your Learning Express account for more help with your job search. To fully participate in Learning Express, students should bring their library card.

Basic Internet Security and Computer Maintenance teaches how to use free software to keep one's personal computer safe from software infections while using the internet (web browsing, receiving email, etc.), as well as basic maintenance to keep the PC working in optimal condition. Students will learn safe web browsing and email practices, including:
· secure vs. insecure web sites
· secure password creation and management
· determining web site impersonations and redirects
· verifying the safety of downloads
· identifying false virus detections
· email spoofing
· how to stay off spam lists
Computer maintenance techniques will include:
· disk-error checking,
· hard drive defragmentation,
· program inventory and cleanup
· security updates
