The 4th & 5th Grade Reading Buddies will discuss Christopher Paul Curtis' Newbery Honor-winning work of historical fiction, The Watsons Go to Birmingham. It is a Civil Rights-era story of an African-American family from Flint, Michigan that travels to Alabama to spend the summer with their strict grandmother. Their journey takes them straight into a chilling moment in U.S. history: the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church with four young girls inside.

We will also discuss Robert Oppel's The Boundless, the selection for February. (The February book club was cancelled due to inclement weather).

Refreshments will be served. Online pre-registration is suggested. Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.

A book club for 6th-8th graders. We will be discussing I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore. In the beginning they were a group of nine. Nine aliens who left their home planet of Lorien when it fell under attack by the evil Mogadorian. Nine aliens who scattered on Earth. Nine aliens who look like ordinary teenagers living ordinary lives, but who have extraordinary, paranormal skills. Nine aliens who might be sitting next to you now. The Nine had to separate and go into hiding. The Mogadorian caught Number One in Malaysia, Number Two in England, and Number Three in Kenya. All of them were killed. John Smith, of Paradise, Ohio, is Number Four. He knows that he is next. Pre-registration is suggested. Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.
