Democracy House is partnering with the Edison Public Library to establish the Book Buddies program.  Book Buddies is a literacy program focused on enhancing the reading skills and abilities of elementary school aged children.  Readers will meet with a volunteer and spend the 45 minutes session once a week for 3 weeks, reading age and skill-level appropriate books and engaging in literacy centered activities.   Book Buddies volunteers are currently enrolled college students who have been accepted to the Bonner Leader Program.  Bonner Leaders are hand selected for the program through a rigorous application and interview process.  They must pass a federal background check, and receive weekly leadership and professional development training.

This is a workshop to help prepare oung people for the real world.  Helping them undrrstand business and economics.  It will give students the opportunity to:

  • learn mney management skills such as earning, saving and spending
  • understnad business and entrepeneurship
  • create and monitor their own businesses.

Certificates will be issued to all participants who attend the complete series.

PROGRAM DATES INCLUDE:  Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29   Tuesdays at 6-7pm and the final session on Saturday, Feb. 2  at 10:30 -11:30
