All teens interested in the following volunteer opportunities must fill out the application at Teen Corner by June 24, no later than 5:00pm.

Open to teens entering grades 9-12 (as of September 2017).

 

LEND A HAND: summer volunteer program (2 sessions)

Mondays - Fridays, July 05 – July 21, July 24 – August 11, 10:00am - 8:00pm

Volunteer in the library’s Children’s, Teen, & Adult departments over the course of three weeks.    

 

GAME BUDDIES: gaming program  (2 sessions)

Mondays, July 10, 17, & 24; July 31, August 07 & 14, 2:00pm - 3:00pm

Share your love of board games by playing with children grades K-6.

 

BOOK BUDDIES: reading program (2 sessions)

Mondays, July 10, 17, & 24; July 31, August 07 & 14, 3:30pm - 4:30pm

Share your love of reading and books by reading aloud to children age 3-6.

 

Please note:     All STEP UP SUMMER volunteers must have valid Elmont Library card, and sign up for the Teen Summer Reading Club.

ACCEPTED teens will be emailed AND must reply to confirm.
Teens not chosen WILL NOT receive an email.

Teens will be chosen for one session.

We have copies of the books on the Summer Reading Lists from Sewanhaka High School District, Valley Stream School District as well as many parochial and private schools. 

 

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES:

  • You may register online, in person or by calling Teen Corner at 354-5280 ext. 247 unless noted otherwise
  • Every program registrant must register under their own Elmont library card number
  • Parent / caregivers may register their own teen
  • You may not register a friend or relative
  • Registration for programs begins four weeks  before the program's date
  • Non-residents will be placed on the non-resident waiting list
  • Registered participants must be present at the time the program is scheduled to begin.  We regret that after that time, their place will be given to those on the waiting list.
  • If you are unable to attend a workshop, please call YA Services so your place can be given to a patron on the waiting list.
  • Patrons who repeatedly fail to attend programs they have registered for may be refused admittance to future programs
  • Participation in a library program entitles the Elmont Memorial Library to use photographs for publicity purposes.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES:

  • You may register online, in person or by calling Teen Corner at 354-5280 ext. 247 unless noted otherwise
  • Every program registrant must register under their own Elmont library card number
  • Parent / caregivers may register their own teen
  • You may not register a friend or relative
  • Registration for programs begins four weeks  before the program's date
  • Non-residents will be placed on the non-resident waiting list
  • Registered participants must be present at the time the program is scheduled to begin.  We regret that after that time, their place will be given to those on the waiting list.
  • If you are unable to attend a workshop, please call YA Services so your place can be given to a patron on the waiting list.
  • Patrons who repeatedly fail to attend programs they have registered for may be refused admittance to future programs
  • Participation in a library program entitles the Elmont Memorial Library to use photographs for publicity purposes.
