Sublime Sunflowers

Pastel Paint like the Masters with Greg Maichack

Library Community Room

Extensively researched, Maichack teaches participants by lecture, revealing anecdotes, historical context and demo of techniques applicable to many styles of pastel painting, covering all essential pastel techniques. Participants using van Gogh’s, Georgia O’Keeffe’s and Monet’s famous “Sunflowers” artwork, and also Maichack’s reference photos, create their unique sunflower pastel painting.

All materials: pastels, pastel paper, pastel pencils, included.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. This project is supported in part from a grant from the East Longmeadow Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Spanish for Preschoolers @ the East Longmeadow Library!

Take advantage of this special opportunity to have your preschooler learn Spanish in a fun and playful way with instructor Kate Chung.

Children will learn basic Spanish vocabulary following an adaptation of the beloved preschool book Go Dog Go. Kids will have fun with activities and crafts while they are immersed in the Spanish language. This 7 week program is for ages 3 1/2 - 6, and begins Tuesday September 16th from 9:30-10:45am.

Registration is required as space is limited.

Spanish for Homeschoolers @ the East Longmeadow Library!

Attention homeschooled students! Join instructor Kate Chung for a fun 7 week program held Thursday mornings from 9:30-10:30am.

To commemorate the 2014 World Cup, students will be learning Spanish in the context of a trip to the World Cup host nation where they will learn conversational skills related to finding a hotel room, sightseeing at the beach, finding their seat in a stadium as well as terms of good sportsmanship.  

 Ages 8-14 (7 year old with good reading skills and maturity welcome). Registration is required as space is limited.

Forty art prints, originally purchased for the library by the Friends, will be on sale. Some are in excellent condition, while others need a little TLC to restore the frame to its former beauty. There are prints byCassatt, Delacroix, Matisse, Monet and many more.

    Fall Storytime  Registration                                                                                                                                                                                                           

Fall Storytime @ the East Longmeadow Public Library begins today, Wednesday October 1st @ 9:30am in person or 10:00am by phone.          

Registration is required for the following 7 week programs:                                                                                                                                                                          

Preschool Story Time; Independent story time for ages 3 1/2 –6. Mondays at 1pm or Thursdays at 10am.    

Parents and Twos; A popular story time for ages 2—3 1/2 with a caregiver. Tuesday at 10:30am or Wednesday at 10:30am.    

Shake, Rattle, & Read; A fun story and playtime for birth to 2 years with a caregiver. Fridays at 10:30am.                                                                                                                                                                   

Please note, Pajama Night, held Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm does not require registration.                               

Registration is open to East Longmeadow residents on Wednesday October 1st. As some programs fill quickly, plan to arrive early to secure a spot. Residents of all towns may register on Thursday, October 2nd. The 7 week storytime session begins the week of October 6th.

  Family Adventures in Reading with professional storyteller Tom McCabe @ the East Longmeadow Library!

We are pleased to offer Family Adventures in Reading with professional storyteller Tom McCabe! This is a six week program for children 6 and up along with a caregiver.

Tom will present outstanding picture books that draw on a variety of cultural traditions followed by discussions of the stories that explore character-building concepts such as courage, fairness, persistence and courage. Each session is followed by a social time with light (healthy) refreshments.

This program will be held October 11, 18, November 1, 8, 15 and 22 from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. Participants attend each of the 90-minute sessions. Families who attend regularly will receive a canvas book bag and a free book. 

Please register for this program in the Children's Department.  

This program is sponsored by Mass Humanities.

To commemorate the 2014 World Cup, students will be learning Spanish in the context of a trip to the World Cup host nation where they will learn conversational skills related to finding a hotel room, sightseeing at the beach, finding their seat in a stadium as well as terms of good sportsmanship.

  "Down on the Farm" with Ms. Michele and enjoy wonderful picture books about animals. Shake, Rattle & Read! is a fun time for both adult caregiver and little ones ages birth to 2 years. Learn tips and tricks to have a fulfilling reading time with your baby, enjoy stories, music and fingerplays. This storytime is followed by a playtime with toddler toys.

  Family Adventures in Reading with professional storyteller Tom McCabe @ the East Longmeadow Library!

We are pleased to offer Family Adventures in Reading with professional storyteller Tom McCabe! This is a six week program for children 6 and up along with a caregiver.

Tom will present outstanding picture books that draw on a variety of cultural traditions followed by discussions of the stories that explore character-building concepts such as courage, fairness, persistence and courage. Each session is followed by a social time with light (healthy) refreshments.

This program will be held October 11, 18, November 1, 8, 15 and 22 from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. Participants attend each of the 90-minute sessions. Families who attend regularly will receive a canvas book bag and a free book.

Take advantage of this special opportunity to have your preschooler learn Spanish in a fun and playful way with instructor Kate Chung.

Children will learn basic Spanish vocabulary following an adaptation of the beloved preschool book Go Dog Go. Kids will have fun with activities and crafts while they are immersed in the Spanish language. This 7 week program is for ages 3 1/2 - 6, and begins Tuesday September 16th from 9:30-10:45am.

Calling all ghouls and goblins….to the awesome annual HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL hosted by the MOM'S CLUB of East Longmeadow!

This fun filled event will be held Saturday October 25th  from 11am-1pm.  You do not want to miss this day of games, prizes, tattoos, face painting, treats, and more!  Come in costume and join the fun!  For ages 2-7yrs. There is a small donation per child.  All proceeds go to the Children’s Department Program Fund.

The Board of Selectmen announces that it has set a date for a Special Town Meeting.  The Special Town Meeting will be held Monday, October 27, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the East Longmeadow High School Auditorium. 

The final deadline to submit warrant articles for this Special Town Meeting has not been set, but it is anticipated that the Board of Selectmen will confirm the deadline at its next regular meeting on August 19, 2014.  

Petitioned warrant articles must include the signatures of at least 100 registered voters.  Petition forms are available in the Town Clerk’s office in Town Hall, 60 Center Square, East Longmeadow, MA 01028.  All warrant articles must be submitted to the Board of Selectmen’s Office.
