Humans have been adorning their bodies with beautiful, natural henna for millennia. From ancient Egyptian mummies to modern day Indian weddings, henna is often used to mark and celebrate rites of passage and times of transition. We'll discuss where the henna plant grows, how it is prepared for use in decorating the skin, and how botany and physiology combine to make it possible for the designs to last 1-3 weeks. After learning about the history and science of henna, participants will get to experience this art form first-hand, drawing out their own patterns and having henna applied by professional henna artist Heather Caunt-Nulton of Henna by Heather.

Registration required, call 434-2453.

East Providence musician Tish Adams brings her big sound to Weaver Library.  A great library patron and a favorite artist on New England's live music scene, Tish has a compelling stage presence and an extensive repertoire of time-honored jazz standards. Her show is seasoned with long-forgotten gems, obscure treasures and a dash of the Blues.  Fans compare Tish to the "great ladies of jazz."  Tish has invited several musicians to join her in this free concert.  Bring chairs and a picnic and enjoy the best of local talent!
You can also try some salads or "wrapz" from Z Food Truck -" great tasting food that is good for you too!"  This food truck will be parked in front of the library from 5:30-7:30pm.

misc_arrow_r_red 7:00 PM Ten Million Steps on Route 6 - Weaver Remind Me about this Event Download Event Info Tell a Friend
    Contact: Joyce May   434-2453   eplibraryjoyce@yahoo.com

TEN MILLION STEPS is a sketch of the U. S. through the eyes of coal miners, farmers, banjo players, parents, country folk and city folk. The book is also about ducks that walk on fish, scary cows, women in hard hats, a bike that floats, and the bravest little car in the world.  And it’s about places you can’t savor in the fast lane... the wintry back roads of Cape Cod, Colorado's Glenwood Canyon, and many others.

Some of these stories were published in newspapers during the walk. But there were many more, so photographer Travis Lindhorst and writer Joe Hurley put them all together in a book and Hurley will share his favorites in this presentation.

Hurley, a retired newspaper reporter, spent most of his career at The News-Times in Danbury Connecticut, where, among other things, he wrote the consumer-humor column called Shallow Pockets.  This program is free and open to all.
