misc_new_blue 7:00 PM Get Your Children's Book Published Now - Weaver Remind Me about this Event Download Event Info Tell a Friend
    Contact: Joyce May   434-2453   eplibraryjoyce@yahoo.com

Having a children's book published in today's tough market can seem like an impossible dream. But, in reality, getting your book idea into shape and into print can hinge on just the right advice and a timely critique from a pro. Do you need an agent? Should you connect with an artist? What about self-publishing? In a one-session workshop, nationally-known author Peter Mandel will pass on the insiders' tips writers need to know in order to create a marketable first book and get it into the hands of exactly the right gatekeepers in the publishing world. A regular contributor to The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal, Mandel is the author of eleven books for kids, including the Jackhammer Sam (Macmillan) and Zoo Ah-choooo (Holiday House). Mandel lives in Rhode Island when he is not traveling the world as a journalist.

Are you holding onto a rare first edition?  Have a priceless signed copy?  Bring up to three books to this fun, interactive program!

Expert Ray Rickman will offer his thoughts on book values drawing on his years of experience as a long-time rare book dealer in Providence and the former host of “Bestsellers” on Rhode Island Public Television.

In an Antiques Roadshow-type format, Mr. Rickman will cover what makes a book valuable, what type of books have the highest retail value and will offer complimentary estimates of up to three of your books’ market value.

Mr. Rickman is the founder of The Rickman Group, a Providence-based management consultant firm, offering advice to companies and nonprofits to improve their strategic, financial and operational position and performance. A former state representative, Ray Rickman lectures throughout Rhode Island and beyond on a broad range of historical and cultural topics pertaining to American literature and African American history.
