The Weaver Library is proud to present the Providence Brigade Band in a concert the band calls
"The Greatest Hits of the Civil War."

Originally chartered in 1847, The Providence Brigade Band continues a great tradition performing authentic musical re-creations of brass band music of the mid-19th century and the American Civil War - North and South.  Dressed in militia-style uniforms, the musicians offer a special history lesson through the music of military bands.

A wonderful family program, this concert is free and open to all.

misc_none 7:00 PM Our Huckleberry Friend: An Evening with Barbara Slater and the Music of Johnny Mercer - Weaver Remind Me about this Event Download Event Info Tell a Friend
    Contact: Joyce May   434-2453   eplibraryjoyce@yahoo.com

Weaver Library is proud to present Vocalist Barbara Slater in a musical program celebrating Johnny Mercer, America’s Poet Laureate.  Talented keyboard artist and composer Kent Hewitt will join Barbara along with Todd Baker on bass.

Think of any American popular-song hit from the late 1930s through the mid-1960s, and there’s a decent chance that Johnny Mercer wrote the words for it. “Accentuate the Positive,” “Days of Wine and Roses,” “Skylark,” “Satin Doll,” “You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby,” ”Moon River”… Johnny Mercer’s songs capture the sound and soul of America, reaching across boundaries of time, gender and race to talk of loneliness, longing, and lighthearted fun.  Frank Sinatra, who recorded many of his tunes, once said, “A Johnny Mercer lyric is all the wit you wish you had and all the love you ever lost.”

Barbara’s love of great American music and her smooth and sultry voice embrace each line of Mercer’s lyrics with warmth and enthusiasm. Critics praise her "her captivating style, interpretive skills and absolutely beautiful tone". Join us at the library and reward yourself for completing your tax return!  This concert is free and open to all.  Dancing allowed!

Dreams come to us in the dark of night to guide us into personal authenticity,
healing and wholeness. They speak to us with strange stories and riddles that when
decoded can help us to focus on issues that are important to us, and offer
suggestions about how to proceed.

This presentation will introduce you to the basics of dreams and dreamwork so that
you can begin to capture the important personal messages that come from the depths
of your own inner wisdom during the sleeping hours. Although we will not be
interpreting individual dreams, you will learn the importance of dreams, the
different kinds of dreams, how to capture them and keep them for future work in your
personal dream journal.

SNAP is a federal program that provides nutritional assistance to low-income households. Benefits supplement the food budgets of families and individuals so they may purchase more and higher quality foods using the EBT (Electronics Benefits Transfer) card. While many Rhode Islanders participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, thousands of our neighbors are unaware of their eligibility or need help in order to access benefits. This presentation will provide basic information about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and its benefits.
