misc_none 6:30 PM  -  7:30 PM Tories, Spies and Traitors: Divided Loyalty in Revolutionary Connecticut Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

Which side are you on?  That's the question that everyone in Connecticut had to answer in 1775, as the thirteen colonies began a rebellion against British rule.  For soldiers and civilians alike, loyalty could mean loss of fortune, of friends, and even of life.  This presentation reveals stories - some well known, some obscure - of Nutmeggers who risked and sacrificed to support their chosen side during this "tumultuous jarring time of civil war."

Presented by Natalie Belanger, Visitor Services Associate at the Connecticut Historical Society and History Teacher at Manchester Community College, Asnuntuck Community College, and Goodwin College. Registration is required and begins on June 27th.

misc_none 6:30 PM  -  7:30 PM Over a Wyoming Campfire- the Beginnings of the National Park Service Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

In 1872, the United State created Yellowstone National Park, the world's first national park, to "conserve the scenery... unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations." This was the world's first national park. Today there are more than 450 national parks in the US and 1200 worldwide. This talk will focus on the creation of the National Park Service one hundred years ago in 1916, a radical move for its time, to intervene in the health of the nation's lands. The talk will discuss the history of conservation and how the American wilderness plays an important role in the identity of the American people, as well as outlining the personalities and events that created this, one of the most successful and popular government agencies ever conceived.

Presented by Hamish Lutris, Associate Professor of History at Housatonic Community College.

The third fitness program is CIZE -This isn't one of those "dance-lite" workouts where you just shuffle your feet to the beat. Shaun T and his crew bring the dance studio to you to teach you real choreographed dance routines. But we break down the moves step-by-step, as you go, so you can learn them, repeat them until you're comfortable, put a sequence together, then bust out a full routine to songs from the CIZE playlist! You'll be completely amazed at how good you do and how good you feel!
