misc_none 6:45 PM  -  7:45 PM Book Discussion: My Sunshine Away Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

This month's selection is My Sunshine Away by M.O. Walsh.

In My Sunshine Away, M.O. Walsh brilliantly   juxtaposes the enchantment of a charmed childhood with the gripping story of a violent crime, unraveling families, and consuming adolescent love. Acutely wise and deeply honest, it is an astonishing and page-turning debut about the meaning of family, the power of memory, and our ability to forgive. (Amazon.com)

“A novel of the heart...The colour, tastes, sounds and smells of Sri Lanka ooze from its pages, vibrant and intoxicating, but as beauty turns to brutality our sympathies are tossed between two young women whose different paths are fashioned by the violence of civil war, but whose inner humanity is never forgotten.” (Sarah Dunant, author of Blood and Beauty and Birth of  Venus)

With a team composed of the sons of loggers, shipyard workers, and farmers, the University of Washington’s eight-oar crew team was never expected to defeat the elite teams of the East Coast and Great Britain, yet they did, going on to shock the world by defeating the German team rowing for Adolf Hitler.” (Amazon.com)
