Grades 3 & 4: Join us for our monthly book club!  Read the book, then come discuss it with your peers in a group lead by one of our librarians. Copies of the book will be available at the children's circulation desk prior to the book club.

We will be reading "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" by Brian Selznick!

From Book: "Orphan, clock keeper, and thief, Hugo lives in the walls of a busy Paris train station, where his survival depends on secrets and anonymity.  But when his world suddenly interlocks - like the gears of the clocks he keeps - with an eccentric, bookish girl and a bitter old man who runs a toy booth in the train station, Hugo's undercover life, and his most precious secret are put in jeopardy.  A cryptic drawing, a treasured notebook, a stolen key, a mechanical man, and a hidden message from Hugo's dead father form the backbone of this intricate, tender, and spellbinding mystery."

Registration is required for this event and is limited to 15 participants.  If you would like to sign up more than one child, please fill out separate registration forms.  Please be prepared to discuss the book.

Each child will spend 15 minutes reading to Gracie. They may bring their own book or choose one at the library before their session.

Animals are ideal reading companions because they listen attentively; do not judge, laugh or criticize; allow children to proceed at their own pace; are less intimidating than peers; and they help increase relaxation and lower blood pressure, according to the program.

Registration is required. Register in person or by phone at 203-452-2850 x 4.
