misc_none 12:30 PM  -  2:30 PM Papermaking with Maia Howes     Tell a Friend
Mass Audubon Presents -- Papermaking : Where Art & Science Meet Ages 6 and older with an adult Learn the History of Papermaking, Discover the process of Papermaking, Make your own paper to take home!! Since its invention, paper has influenced the very development of society. We have been making paper for more than 1000 years and still today, paper is inextricably linked to our daily lives. The goal for this program is to relate artistic and scientific concepts to one of the most familiar objects in our daily activities. The process of paper making will capture the imaginations of young people, stimulating their creativity, and showcasing the relationship between art and science. We believe that this holistic approach to presenting art and science together offers a complementary method for developing a deeper appreciation for both. The end product for each person, paper, serves as the catalyst that will guide them toward their next opportunity for exploring and learning; begging the question, what does one do with a piece of paper? During this program, Maia will share her knowledge of the history of paper making and the process of making paper. Participants will make their own paper to take home. N. Maia Howes is a fiber artist with years of teaching experience in multiple venues including the Brockton Public Schools, the Attleboro Museum and the Fuller Museum of Art. She has an MED from Cambridge College, Cambridge MA and a BS from Bridgewater State College and studied paper making at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. She has been making paper using traditional techniques for more than 20 years. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Wrentham Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. In addition, Mass Audubon’s Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary in Norfolk is delighted to work with the Fiske Library to bring you this program.

ent_circ_ringmaster 10:30 AM Circus Minimus - Children's Program     Tell a Friend
CIRCUS MINIMUS - KEVIN O’KEEFE – One-Man Circus-in-a-Suitcase All Ages Kevin O’Keefe discovered Circus Minimus in 1985 when he found a small suitcase outside his apartment in NYC and filled it with everything he would need to perform his One-Man Circus in-a-Suitcase around the world. Since then Circus Minimus has expanded to include five programs that have touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of families. This show has been performed over 500 times around the globe, for family theater audiences and school assemblies alike. From Kevin O’Keefe’s suitcase an entire circus emerges: tent, band, lights, the boisterous ringmaster Steve Fitzpatrick, the officious Mervin Merkle, the incredible Bumbilini Family, the Magician to the Stars Clyde Zerbini, and Keefer–an innocent trying to runaway and join the circus. However, the most important performers emerge from the audience. Each performance becomes a dialogue between the characters and the audience–a light-hearted collaboration. Tickets available at the circulation desk on June 17. Program is free but canned-good donations will be gratefully accepted for the Wrentham Food. Pantry. This program is supported with a grant from The SWEATT FUND.
