Northampton Playwrights Lab is accepting new members. The Lab functions as a forum for writers to develop new work, and to provide a supportive, workshop environment where group members can give and receive constructive criticism and feedback on new works-in-progress. Member playwrights sign up to bring their work-in-progress (short plays, one-acts, and full-length) to be read aloud.
Actors are always welcome to attend our meetings, too!
We meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday evening of each month at Forbes Library in Northampton at 6:30 p.m.

An Evening With the Rub Wrongways Caravan of Stars
|
|
| |
|
Rub Wrongways Records presents a smorgasbord of family-style servings of music.
A roving group of outcasts? A traveling circus of prophets? An in-the-round songfest? A full-on multi-band rock show? An unplugged intimate group effort? You never know exactly what or who you are going to get when the Rub Wrongways Caravan of Stars pulls into your town. But, rest assured, you'll get something.
Rub Wrongways is more than just a record label, it is a collaborative group of songwriters, musicians, and singers who all work together in an effort to make the most of their music. It is a small family of artists who support each other's songwriting. This results in a lot of people-sharing. Sometimes the difference between two bands is only the songwriter/voice of the group. The musicians of this versatile cooperative are able to mold their perfromance style to best suit that of each songwriter's vision.
Occasionally, the Rub Wrongways gang will perform as a single unit. Six or so musicians will all play together supporting each other's songs. The group of six will play the music of four different bands with each band's lead singer taking the microphone. Usually, the songs presented are from School for the Dead, The Fawns, Bourgeois Heroes, and Sitting Next To Brian.
The super group major players are: Brian Marchese, Henning Ohlenbusch, Jason Bourgeois, Lesa Bezo, Max Germer, and Ryan Quinn.

Saundra Dubow Azmitia, author of Do it Differently, Do it Differently! will speak about her memoir on Wednesday, December 9, 7:00 p.m. at Forbes Library.
Coming of age in the forties and fifties under the thumb of a “titan” of a mother whose ambitions for wealth and security for her daughter focused on steering her into marriage with a “good catch,” Saundra wavered between her own instincts and society’s values. Resisting her mother’s traditional standards of a woman’s “proper place” and limited horizons, Saundra struggled to honor her mother and still carve out a meaningful life for herself through the arts and theater.

Yoga workshop with Sally Morgan, PT
Phoenix Rising Certified Yoga Instructor
Sponsored by the Western Mass. Recovery Learning Community and the Freedom Center of Northampton
Free (donations at www.freedom-center.org )

Sally Morgan brings her background as a Physical Therapist and certified CranioSacral Therapist/Instructor to her yoga classes. Her classes offer people the opportunity to explore and heal their minds and bodies as one. Certified through Phoenix Rising, well known for their Yoga Therapy programs, Sally’s approach emphasizes “receiving” yoga, rather than “doing” yoga. Sally’s practice in Vinyassa Yoga, with flowing postures moving smoothly into one another, also strongly influences her classes. She studied Yin Yoga with Lynn Kingston, where postures are maintained for several minutes, allowing for deep fascial changes in the body, and this tradition is evident in Sally’s classes. Sally’s intentions in teaching yoga are to facilitate physical, emotional, and spiritual transformation, and to provide a sense of peace and grounding during classes.
Phoenix Rising yoga experiences consist of eight classes with themes (Befriending the Body, Awareness, Acceptance, Choice, Discernment, Truth, Truth in Action, Flow) that encourage self reflection. Periodically, this series will be offered instead of a more traditional yoga class. While it is best to attend them all in order, drop in’s are still welcome.

Do you enjoy knitting, crocheting, or some other type of yarn craft or would you like to start or improve on a yarn craft? You are invited to the Forbes Library's Knitting & Crochet circle. This group is a casual place to meet other yarn crafters of all kinds and experience levels and share crafting tips and pleasant conversation. Bring your projects in progress or ideas for new ones.
This group will meet weekly on Monday mornings from 10-12 in the cozy Arts & Music magazine lounge.
This circle is facilitated by Nancy Pulley who has experience in knitting, crocheting, sewing and numerous varieties of crafts, both personal and for shows. In Nancy's own words, "I started when I was 12, so I have been doing these hobbies for 52 years now. WOW, am I old. I am extremely active, walk everyday, play tennis, bike ride, line dance, zumba, yoga, watercolor, colored pencil and an avid reader and love being in a library environment. Can never stop learning!"
