The U.S. Census Bureau is currently hiring census takers for the 2010 Census. These temporary, part-time positions offer good pay, flexible hours up to 40 hours a week and the chance to work near home. Census takers work in their communities locating households, explaining the purpose of the census, conducting personal interviews with respondents who failed to return their 2010 Census questionnaire, and recording their responses on paper forms. In most cases, a valid driver’s license and use of a vehicle are required to work as a census taker. The employment test consists of multiple-choice questions measuring knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform a variety of census jobs. People who took the test before are welcome to take the test again. Pre-registration for the test is encouraged.
Call toll free 1-866-861-2010 for more information regarding testing sites and times in our community. For additional information including a sample test visit http://www.2010censusjobs.gov.

Join award-winning pastel artist Gregory John Maichack in “Van Gogh’s Starry Night: How to Pastel Paint Expressively” on Wednesday, February 24, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. This pastel painting workshop is designed for sheer beginners and experienced artists, both adults and teens 16 years of age and above. Seats may fill quickly so stop by the library's circulation desk to register. A six dollar donation will be collected for materials.
Participants will freely experiment with hundreds of artist’s professional grade hard Nupastels and soft Rembrandt pastels, pastel pencils, assorted Canson pastel paper and indigo paper in this fun pastel painting workshop.
Maichack, a faculty member of the Springfield Museum Studio School, will explain van Gogh’s expressive methods. All will explore exciting Impressionist and Post Impressionist concepts and develop their own pastel paintings mastering many decorative qualities such as energetic line and bold color. All will work in tandem with the artist to begin “Starry Night” with white charcoal pencils on black paper.

Yoga workshop with Sally Morgan, PT
Phoenix Rising Certified Yoga Instructor
Sponsored by the Western Mass. Recovery Learning Community and the Freedom Center of Northampton
Free (donations at www.freedom-center.org )

Sally Morgan brings her background as a Physical Therapist and certified CranioSacral Therapist/Instructor to her yoga classes. Her classes offer people the opportunity to explore and heal their minds and bodies as one. Certified through Phoenix Rising, well known for their Yoga Therapy programs, Sally’s approach emphasizes “receiving” yoga, rather than “doing” yoga. Sally’s practice in Vinyassa Yoga, with flowing postures moving smoothly into one another, also strongly influences her classes. She studied Yin Yoga with Lynn Kingston, where postures are maintained for several minutes, allowing for deep fascial changes in the body, and this tradition is evident in Sally’s classes. Sally’s intentions in teaching yoga are to facilitate physical, emotional, and spiritual transformation, and to provide a sense of peace and grounding during classes.
Phoenix Rising yoga experiences consist of eight classes with themes (Befriending the Body, Awareness, Acceptance, Choice, Discernment, Truth, Truth in Action, Flow) that encourage self reflection. Periodically, this series will be offered instead of a more traditional yoga class. While it is best to attend them all in order, drop in’s are still welcome.

Saturday February 20 and 27 10:30-12:30 in the Watson Room at the Forbes Library
“A dream that has not been interpreted is like a letter that has not been opened” (Talmud)
“Before the dawn of written history dreams have served as a primary vehicle for creativity and increasing self-awareness. Religions of the world all have ancient traditions of dream work woven into their sacred texts and oral traditions. “ (Jeremy Taylor, Jungian Dream Analyst)
Dreams can be understood on many levels and serve as symbolic and archetypal messages from our unconscious. Once understood, these dream “messages” provide insight and inspiration for healing and transformation. In this group participants will learn practical skills to help them remember and work with their dreams. Group members will be able to practice these skills using their own dreams or those of the leader. This group will also include a brief introduction to Jungian dream work: archetypal imagery, collective unconscious, and premonitions.
Group members are encouraged to bring pen and paper and any dream or fragment of a dream they have had in recent memory.
