Join us for an intimate afternoon concert in the beautiful Barney Library!

The Hartford Flute Ensemble was created in the spirit of spreading the enjoyment of beautiful flute music. The ensemble made its debut during the summer of 2018 under the direction of Gonzalo Cortes. The performance will include works by classical and contemporary composers such as Friedrick Kuhlau, Anton Reicha, Pierre Max Dubois and Christopher Caliendo among others.

Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

This event is made possible by Richard P. Garmany through a grant awarded by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. The Farmington Libraries will be hosting a variety of performances throughout the year as part of the Richard P. Garmany Music Series.

Great films, picked just for you!

Spend your afternoon enjoying free movie screenings on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at the Barney Library! This month's film is Young Frankenstein (1974).

In this Mel Brooks comedy, Respected medical lecturer Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) learns that he has inherited his infamous grandfather's estate in Transylvania. Arriving at the castle, Dr. Frankenstein soon begins to recreate his grandfather's experiments with the help of servants Igor (Marty Feldman), Inga (Teri Garr) and the fearsome Frau Blücher (Cloris Leachman). After he creates his own monster (Peter Boyle), new complications ensue with the arrival of the doctor's fiancée, Elizabeth (Madeline Kahn). Rated PG. 106 minutes.

In this romantic comedy, Nine intertwined stories examine the complexities of the one emotion that connects us all: love. Among the characters explored are David (Hugh Grant), the handsome newly elected British prime minister who falls for a young junior staffer (Martine McCutcheon), Sarah (Laura Linney), a graphic designer whose devotion to her mentally ill brother complicates her love life, and Harry (Alan Rickman), a married man tempted by his attractive new secretary. Rated R. 145 minutes.
