Want to learn how to knit or brush up on forgotten skills? Join Master Knitter Jodi every other Monday morning to learn the basics of knitting in a welcoming, encouraging atmosphere.

Follow along with Jodi to make scarves and blankets for people in need. You will learn a new skill while serving the community, making new friends, and taking a moment to relax. Beginners and intermediate knitters alike are welcome!

Immerse yourself in the virtual reality experience with the Oculus Rift. Explore the ever-growing line-up of apps specially curated by Farmington Libraries staff. Travel to places around the globe, challenge your skills and your courage with apps like The Climb, watch as characters come to life before your eyes as you become immersed in a story, or complete a guided meditation letting go of the stress of the day in a serene natural setting without having to step foot outdoors. This and so much more awaits you in The Studio!

Registration is limited to 4 participants. Each participant will be assigned a one-hour time slot. Time slots will be reserved in the order that the reservations are received. An email will be sent to all registrants confirming their time slot. If you do not respond to the email that is sent to you within two business days the time slot will be forfeited and given to the next person on the list. Registrants must be age 16 or older. Priority is given to first-time registrants.

Always wanted to paint like a master?  The Maker Space is making it easy on Wednesday evenings this winter.  Come use paint-by-number guides on thick watercolor paper suitable for framing.  Supplies will be provided.

This evening will feature a paint-by-number of Tahitian Pastorals, by Paul Gauguin.  Gauguin's family moved to Peru to escape Napoleonic France when he was young, instilling in him a passion for travel.  He painted Tahitian Pastorals during his first trip to Tahiti in 1892.

AGES 12+ (ADULTS TOO!). Registration is required. Space is limited.  Registration will open a month before each class in this series.

This class is for those who have attended previous classes or have some experience knitting and would like to brush up on their skills! Jodi will introduce new stitches and have you work on a new project! You must bring your own needles and yarn.

Supplies:

  • YARN: Cotton or cotton/acrylic yarn, DK or worsted weight, about 100 yards
  • NEEDLES: Straight knitting needles appropriate for the size yarn chosen (see yarn wrapper for info)

Register today for a one-on-one appointment with our resident scanning specialist to digitally scan and save all of your family’s precious memories. Bring your photos, 35mm slides, negatives, postcards or letters and our staff will scan and save as many as possible during the one-hour session. Have too much for just an hour? No problem! Sign up anyways to get your project started and then schedule a training session to learn to use the equipment yourself. Then you’ll be able to come back and finish your project at your own pace.

Each participant will be assigned a one-hour time slot by the staff member running the program. Time slots will be reserved in the order that the reservations are received. If you are unable to come at your appointed time please contact the program coordinator at your earliest convenience so we may open the spot to another individual. Ages 12 & up. Making your own yogurt is easy, cost-effective, and super healthy because it contains live cultures and no preservatives. Learn how easy it is to make regular yogurt, how to strain yogurt to make thick Greek yogurt and labneh. We will be sampling a parfait (with the homemade Greek yogurt, fresh strawberries, homemade granola and homemade jam) as well as a labneh dip with pita wedges.

Teacher Mary Lee-Brody is a freelance recipe developer, editor and cooking teacher. Her clients have included Kraft Foods, McCormick Spice Company, Ladies Home Journal and Cook’s Magazine. She also volunteers as a chef at the Enfield Loaves & Fishes soup kitchen. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, she makes her home in Simsbury.

Immerse yourself in the virtual reality experience with the Oculus Rift. Explore the ever-growing line-up of apps specially curated by Farmington Libraries staff. Travel to places around the globe, challenge your skills and your courage with apps like The Climb, watch as characters come to life before your eyes as you become immersed in a story, or complete a guided meditation letting go of the stress of the day in a serene natural setting without having to step foot outdoors. This and so much more awaits you in The Studio!

Registration is limited to 4 participants. Each participant will be assigned a one-hour time slot. Time slots will be reserved in the order that the reservations are received. An email will be sent to all registrants confirming their time slot. If you do not respond to the email that is sent to you within two business days the time slot will be forfeited and given to the next person on the list. Registrants must be age 16 or older. Priority is given to first-time registrants.

This class is for those who have attended previous classes or have some experience knitting and would like to brush up on their skills! Jodi will introduce new stitches and have you work on a new project! You must bring your own needles and yarn.

Supplies:

  • YARN: Cotton or cotton/acrylic yarn, DK or worsted weight, about 100 yards
  • NEEDLES: Straight knitting needles appropriate for the size yarn chosen (see yarn wrapper for info)

If you have not signed up for the class, you are welcome to just come and knit, understanding that class participants will get priority attention.
