You may think that drafting an estate plan is straightforward, but in reality, if you do it wrong, you’re jeopardizing everything you’ve worked for. Just because you have a will or trust doesn’t mean you’ve covered your bases. Our presenters will share real-life stories, showing you the dangers of common estate planning mistakes such as using incorrect phrases in your documents or omitting important ones. Failing to fund or revoke a living trust, using ambiguous provisions, titling assets improperly and not updating beneficiary designations are just some of the blunders you must avoid!

Our presenters, Brendan F. Daly and Carmine Perry, are lawyers with CzepigaDalyPope LLC, a law firm specializing in estate planning and senior law.

Please register in advance for this program by calling the library at 860-673-6791, using the online registration form, or visiting the Information Services Desk.

Books so good they were turned into movies! Enjoy a film based on a book and take part in an engrossing discussion, hosted by movie buff Martha Reingold.

Graham Greene is probably best known for his novels but he was a screenwriter as well.  When asked to write a script for this thriller, he said he couldn’t write a movie script without first writing a book. “The Third Man” is the result of the collaboration between Greene and the English director, Carol Reed. It the classic “film noire,” starring Orsen Welles and Joseph Cotton in a story about murder and mystery in Vienna just after World War II.

Les Julian is back by popular demand! Les is an award-winning recording artist and professional singer/songwriter. His performances showcase his award-winning original songs and illuminate universal themes of human life while celebrating the diversity of the world through a variety of exciting musical styles. On nylon string and electric guitars as well as mandolin and percussion, with an unforgettable voice and rubbery storyteller's face, Mr. Julian is a singer of stories that one critic said, "...delight and transport."

This event is made possible by Richard P. Garmany through a grant awarded by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. The Farmington Libraries will be hosting a variety of performances throughout the year as part of the Richard P. Garmany music series.

British mystery lovers are invited to join us to enjoy the beloved series Midsomer Murders, served with tea and biscuits. Midsomer Murders is a long-running and iconic British television series that chronicles Detective Tom Barnaby’s attempts to uncover secrets and solve murders in the seemingly idyllic villages of the fictional Midsomer County.

This month's episode is "Death's Shadow." DCI Barnaby and his wife Joyce plan to renew their wedding vows at St Michael's in Badger's Drift, but this is put on hold when a local property developer, Richard Bayly, is found decapitated in his own home. Barnaby and Troy have a lot to discover as the man had recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour, which meant he might have only weeks to live, yet they wonder why anyone wanted to kill a man in such a condition. They soon discover that Badger's Drift is now a hotbed of corruption and property feuding, but soon begin to doubt their theories when more bodies turn up.

February 1964 was the most important month of the Beatles' entire career. It firmly established Beatlemania in the United States, highlighted by three performances on The Ed Sullivan Show. This program will put the Beatles' first U.S. visit in historical context, with particular emphasis on the assassination of John F. Kennedy and how the president's death helped Beatlemania flourish.

America's only professional Beatles scholar, Aaron Krerowicz won a research grant through the University of Hartford in November 2011 to study the band and has the authored three books on the subject

This month's episode is "Blue Herrings." Barnaby has a week off when his favourite aunt, Alice Bly (Phyllis Calvert), moves temporarily into the Lawnside nursing home in Aspern Tallow. The night she arrives, one of the residents dies mysteriously during the night, and her valuable Cartier watch is stolen. Though the Lawnside director and its physician assure the residents that she died of natural causes, Aunt Alice is unconvinced, and urges Barnaby to investigate. He does, and a series of deaths soon follows that only Barnaby and his loyal sidekick, DS Troy, can solve.
