"Makers push the boundaries—where others see roadblocks, we see opportunities to overcome using our imaginations and the tools around us. And if something we need doesn’t yet exist, we make it ourselves. As part of Maker Camp, you accept the challenge to look forward, dream of better things, and then figure out how to make them a reality. It’s up to every one of us to create the future, and learning how to make is the first step."(Maker Media Inc., 2014)

misc_none 6:30 PM  -  9:00 PM Monday Night Movie - Tanta Aqua     Tell a Friend

Tanta Agua – Spanish/Subtitles, 2013, Comedy/Drama. Alberto and his two children, Lucia and Federico, set off to a hot springs resort for a short vacation. Alberto, who doesn’t see his kids much since the divorce, refuses to allow anything to ruin his plans. But the springs are closed until further notice due to heavy rains, and Lucia’s adolescent rebellion clashes against her father’s enthusiastic efforts for family quality time. When she meets friends her age, equally bored at the rained-out resort, Lucia’s vacation starts looking up. But flings can be fleeting, and it’s her father’s reliable insistence they spend time together that proves to be the most meaningful part of their unexpectedly enjoyable getaway. (102 minutes)

"We may not know the name of the song, but if you hum a few bars, we can probably build an instrument to play it on. At Maker Camp this week, we celebrate music by learning how we can make it ourselves. While building a guitar or an amplifier may seem like something only craftspeople can do, you’d be surprised what you can make with a few parts scrounged from around your home. And once you’ve made your own instrument, it’ll be time to jam with the other campers, and make some noise!"(Maker Media Inc., 2014)

Pulling Strings – Spanish/Subtitles, 2013, Comedy/Romance. Alejandro (Jaime Camil) and his loyal best friend, Canicas (Omar Chaparro), are hardworking mariachi singers looking for fame in Mexico City. More than just a mariachi, Alejandro has a second full-time job – he’s a single dad. When Alejandro tries to secure a visa for his young daughter to visit her grandparents in the U.S. his request is flatly denied by an embassy worker, Rachel (Laura Ramsey). Later that evening, Alejandro and Canicas run into Rachel while playing a gig. Alejandro seizes the coincidental encounter as a change to change her mind, and with Canicas by his side, they whisk her into an unforgettable adventure.  (PG, 118 minutes)

In The Name Of – Poland/Subtitles, 2013, Biography/Drama. Adam is a Catholic priest who discovered his calling as a servant of God at the relatively late age of 21. He now lives in a rural Polish village where he works with troubled teens. He declines the advances of a young blonde named Ewa, saying he is already spoken for by God. However, celibacy is not the only reason for his rejection.  Adam knows that he desires men and that his embrace of the priesthood has been a flight from his own sexuality. When he meets Lukasz, the strange and taciturn son of a simple rural family, Adam’s self-imposed abstinence becomes a heavy burden.  In The Name Of is a film about confused emotions, repression and loneliness – and the possibility of perhaps finding oneself after all. misc_none 7:00 PM  -  9:00 PM A Collection’s Progress: The Lewis Walpole Library 2000-2014     Tell a Friend

The Lewis Walpole Library will host a special showing of its current exhibition, A Collection’s Progress: The Lewis Walpole Library, 2000-2014, complete with a lecture from exhibition curator, Margaret Powell. This event is co-sponsored by the Farmington Libraries and the Lewis Walpole Library, Yale University, and will take place at the Lewis Walpole Library at 154 Main Street, Farmington, at 7:00 p.m.

When Wilmarth Sheldon Lewis left his library to Yale in 1979 Lewis thought of his gift not as a finished monument but as a living thing that required growth and change lest it become, in his words, “static and moldy.”  The exhibition presents materials selected from the LWL’s collecting successes of the last fourteen years. Together the objects on display argue forcefully for the Library’s conquest of stasis and mold, and each speaks eloquently of another time, its politics and conflicts, its arts, fashions, and pastimes.

Seating is limited for this event; please register in advance by calling 860-673-6791, using the online link, or visiting the Farmington Main Library's Adult Desk.

misc_none 7:00 PM  -  8:30 PM Let it Be: The Beatles, January 1969     Tell a Friend

January 1969, in which the Beatles recorded what would ultimately constitute the album Let it Be, is paradoxically both the least understood and most well-documented month of the band's entire existence. This 90-minute multimedia presentation will explain what happened during that fractious month through quotes from the band members and “fly on the wall” excerpts from the recording sessions.

One of the nation's foremost up-and-coming Beatles scholars, Aaron Krerowicz moved to Connecticut in 2010 to matriculate at the University of Hartford, graduating in 2012 with an Artist Diploma in music composition. While still a student, Aaron won a grant to research and analyze the music of the Beatles. He has presented his findings in formal lectures at the Hartt School of the University of Hartford and the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati and has also presented at the University of Pensylvannia Altoona as part of their "International Beatles Conference" celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the Beatles' historic first Ed Sullivan Show broadcast. In addition, he leads many adult-level discussion courses on the band throughout Connecticut.
