The Japanese Garden Style
| |
Visual lecture with Stephen Morrell, director of the John P Humes Japanese Stroll Garden. For more than a century, American artists, gardeners & landscape designers have been inspired by the beauty, simplicity & underlying philosophy of Japanese gardens. This presentation will explore the aesthetic characteristics, design dynamics, and spiritual orientation of the Zen influenced temple & tea garden styles. Learn about the relationship between landscape painting, gardens, and the landscape that inspired them. The function of stone & plants and the criteria for their selection & use will be reviewed. Emphasis will be placed on the adaptation of these concepts in ways that are appropriate for our culture & environment.
Funding provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library.
