Marilyn Carminio examines three decades of high society on both sides of the Atlantic beginning in 1870’s New York and concluding with the Edwardian Era in London. She will examine the intricate codes of conduct defined by “the” Mrs. Astor, society’s undisputed leader, along with changes brought about from the entrance of the new rich led by Mrs. Vanderbilt. Then it’s off to Edwardian England and the American “Dollar Princesses” who exchanged money for titles. This social history of the era will define appropriate etiquette for ladies and gentlemen of the period from the right way to cut a cherry tomato to the “proper” rules of conducting an affair! All are welcome. No registration necessary.

Michelangelo Buonarroti was celebrated for the excellence of his disegno, the power of design and invention that provided the foundation for all the arts. Because of this, his contemporaries called him “il divino”, or the divine one. The Metropolitan Museum’s new exhibit presents 150 of Michelangelo’s drawings, three of his marble sculptures, his earliest painting, his wood architectural model for a chapel vault, and many complementary works by other artists for comparison and context. This exhibition examines Michelangelo’s rich legacy as a supreme draftsman and designer. Professor Thomas Germano will give a visual lecture on the life, times and work of Michelangelo Buonarroti and introduce the works related to this “once in a lifetime exhibition” in New York. All are welcome. No registration is necessary.
