Nick LaPoma of CurveBreakers will be at the library to administer a practice ACT exam on Saturday morning from 10 AM-1 PM.  He will grade the exams and return to the library on Wednesday, January 21st at 7 PM.  Register for one session and automatically registered for both.  Confirmation email will note the Jan 21st date.  Registration begins December 27, 2014

'Tweens & Teens are invited to join in a discussion of the book, THE GIVER by Lois Lowry, the original dystorpian novel for YAs.

Bring a brown bag lunch.  Beverages and snacks will be provided.  Also bring your ideas!

Acknowledge Pet Dental Health Month by making Dog Treats.  These homemade treats will be made from scratch.  Then, Mrs. Kathy the instructor will bring them home, bake them and donate them to an animal shelter.  Participants earn a certificate for 1 hour of Community Service.  Register beginning February 4th

There will be a showing of the movie DIVERGENT (rated PG) for Young Adults.  Based on the best selling YA novel this movie is very popular science fiction action film starring Shailene Woodley.  Snacks will be served.

Anyone entering 6th grade through 12th grade (present 5th grade - 11th grade) is eligible to participate in the Teens & Tots program at the Garden City Pool.  By volunteering for this program the student will earn community service credits.  Those who have done these storytimes in past years will be sent a list of dates to volunteer to go to the pool.  If this is the first experience we require training.  Training is done on choosing books, themes and reading aloud techniques.  There is also training for crafts - how to prepare, select, and do safe crafts with small children.  Please consider this program and register to be trained.

Winthrop University Hospital neo natal nurses, JoAnn Tanck and Georgette Basso will once again conduct the First Aid Session of the Babysitting Workshop.  At this workshop there will be instruction on the care, health and nutrition of young children and infants as well as what to do in the event of illnesses or accidents which may occur while you are babysitting.  Please bring a baby size doll or stuffed animal to practice diapering, burping and first aid.  Registration begins April 1, 2015.  Limit 30 YAs

Baking Coach will be at the library to present a Classic Tea for Moms and their daughters/sons.  Participants will learn 3 different types of finger sandwiches and cookie decorating, plus they will enjoy freshly made scones while sipping Earl Grey tea.  Limit 15 families (30 persons).  Registration begins April 7, 2015

Steve Espey of the Inc. Village of Garden City Department of Recreation and Detective Richard Pedone of the Youth Bureau of the Garden City Police Department will again be at the library to instruct young babysitters to be on the vigilance and precautions necessary while caring for young children in the Parks, Pool and homes in Garden City.  This is the second part of the Babysitting Workshop.  Part 1 is on April 22.  Registration for either part registers you for both sessions. Registration begins April 1.  Class limited to 30 participants
