A mysterious tightrope walker takes upon himself the challenge of walking a high wire strung between the tops of the two towers. As he performs, a crowd of onlookers gathers below watching in awe. misc_none 2:30 PM ITALIAN AMERICANS AND THE MEDIA: CINEMA, VIDEO AND TELEVISION Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend
Italian Americans have had a conspicuous, though at times, debatable, presence in cinema, music, and television. From the early days of cinema, this medium played an integral part in laying a foundation for a negative stereotype of the Italian American: gangster, womanizer, buffoon. However, on television, the situation was different. Though negative stereotyping continued, there were other more positive manifestations. The contemporary medium of the music video saw the likes of Madonna, John Bon Jovi, and Gwen Stefani each bring an innovative twist to the short visual. Please join Dr. Anthony Julian Tamburri as he traces the representation of Italian Americans in each medium. This program, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by Loggia Glen Cove, No. 1016, Order of Sons of Italy in America, with the support of the New York Council for the Humanities.
