    Do you enjoy knitting? Would you like to learn how to knit or crochet? How about learning some new stitch techniques and tips? Then join the Glen Cove Woman’s Club Knitting Group! The Knitting Group is seeking new members of all ages and skill levels to join their informal group. In fact, you’re still welcome even if you do not know how to knit - you can come and enjoy the conversation, camaraderie and good times had by this group. The members of the Knitting Group work at their own pace to create scarves, sweaters, blankets and so much more. Many of the items created during these meetings are donated to charity. The Knitting group meets at the Glen Cove Public Library on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 10am; there is no fee to join and all are welcome.

Gemini Journey is the violin/cello duo consisting of “musical and spiritual twins” Diane Block, violinist, and Terry Batts, cellist, who became friends in the 1980s while both studying at the Manhattan School of Music.  Come and join them as they evoke the spirit of our American heritage by performing African-American Spiritual songs including “Don’t Let This Harvest Pass” and “I Got a Home in a Dat Rock”.  Learn a bit about the history of the African American Spirituals and how this unique American art form led to the birth of the blues, jazz and other forms of music.

THE HOLLOW GROUND

Librarian Carol Stern will lead a lively discussion of the book, The Hollow Ground - and author Natalie S. Hartnett will make a special visit to discuss her novel and explain what inspired her to write her story.  Inspired by the real-life deadly coal fires in Pennsylvania, this debut novel is about Brigid Howley, whose family must move in with her estranged grandparents as the burning grows.  As the family struggles to survive, Brigid uncovers a horrific secret.  The Hollow Ground is a provocative and suspenseful story that is told with profound feeling.  A question and answer session will follow the discussion and light refreshments will be served.  The Friends of the Library will be selling copies of the book for you to have signed at the conclusion of the event.

The Library will again offer free tax assistance throughout the tax season.  This service is available to individuals of all ages and is not limited to senior citizens.  Assistance will be provided by AARP trained volunteer instructors on a first-come-first-served basis.  Please be sure to bring your tax package, W-2 forms, a copy of your 2013 tax return and all other information that might be helpful in correctly determining your tax refund.

Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell brings her new Mobile Office to the Library!  Office representatives will be able to provide certified copies of land records (deeds, mortgages and mortgage satisfactions) and notary services, for a fee.  The Mobile Office will also offer Clerk O’Connell’s Veterans Recognition Program, where office representatives can process veteran discharge papers (DD-214) and provide our Veterans Discount Card, free of charge.

2:30 - 4:30pm: KidPix Child ID program sponsored by County Executive Ed Mangano’s office.  The KidPix program gives parents a convenient way to keep their children’s important information on a single, wallet sized ID card.  The KidPix card includes the child’s name, physical description, contact information and photograph.  The child’s fingerprint is also included on the back of the card.  Photos and fingerprints will be processed on-site on a first come, first served basis with numbers given to the parents at 2:00 pm.

The Knitting Group is seeking new members of all ages and skill levels to join their informal group. In fact, you’re still welcome even if you do not know how to knit - you can come and enjoy the conversation, camaraderie and good times had by this group. The members of the Knitting Group work at their own pace to create scarves, sweaters, blankets and so much more. Many of the items created during these meetings are donated to charity. The Knitting group meets at the Glen Cove Public Library on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 10am; there is no fee to join and all are welcome.

The members of the Knitting Group work at their own pace to create scarves, sweaters, blankets and so much more. Many of the items created during these meetings are donated to charity.
