lib_bookflipping 2:00 PM Book Discussion Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

The Invention of Wings, by Sue Monk Kidd

Presented by Amy Mondello

The Invention of Wings, tells the story of four women - two sisters from the prosperous white Grimké family and an African-American mother and daughter who are their house slaves - living in antebellum Charleston, South Carolina.  As their intertwined stories unfold in their own voices, we learn that the four have a lot in common, especially the desire to break free.  Inspired by actual historical figures and events, Sue Monk Kidd’s extraordinary novel tells the story of two struggles for freedom and speaks about the nature of evil and injustice, the courage to do what seems impossible and the perseverance of hope.  Join us as librarian Amy Mondello leads a discussion of this poignant novel.  Copies of the book will be available at the Reference desk.
