For our July meeting we'll be reading Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli.  Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight.  Now change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he's pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he's never met.  We'll also be reading I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson for our next meeting.  Stop by Levels to pick up a copy of each and start reading!

Performances are:

AUGUST 10, 11 & 12, 2017
at 8:00 p.m.

This beloved classic will be the first musical presented in Levels' renovated space!

The year is 1905. In the Russian Jewish village of Anatevka, everyone lives according to the traditions of the past. But times have begun to change. Tevye, the simple, hardworking dairyman, must decide what to do when his daughters wish to marry for love rather than have the village’s matchmaker choose their husbands for them – an obvious thing to us in 2017, but unthinkable in their time and place. Each choice his children make pushes Tevye farther from what his heart and his religion will allow. And there are darker things on the horizon – it is rumored that Jews have begun to be forced from their villages by the Russian authorities. Somehow, Tevye and his neighbors must redefine themselves and find a place in this new and different world, where their existence feels as shaky as...well, as a fiddler on the roof.

Fiddler on the Roof is filled with songs almost everyone knows: "Tradition," "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were a Rich Man," "Do You Love Me?," "Miracle of Miracles" and more.  The original production starring Zero Mostel and directed/choreographed by Jerome Robbins won nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, the 1971 film adaptation won three Oscars, and the play has since gone on to become a favorite the world over,

Levels presents several fully-staged theatre productions a year, all directed, produced, choreographed, designed and performed by teens between 7th grade and college age.

Book by Joseph Stein
Music by Jerry Bock
Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick
Based on Sholom Aleichem's stories by permission of Arnold Perl
