Molly the Reading Therapy DogA 6-Week Reading Program

We are excited to welcome back “Molly” a certified reading therapy dog for our six-week program which is designed to encourage readers at all levels to practice their skills in a judgment-free environment.
 
Children will have the opportunity to schedule 15 minutes of one-on-one reading with Molly on a regular basis at the Library. Reading times will be at 6:00, 6:15, 6:30, 6:45, 7:00 or 7:15 p.m. Wednesday evenings.

Registration is required. To sign your child up for a 15 minute reading session please call 497-2102 or stop by the Children’s Room.

This family-friendly program will change the way you view chocolate. Learn where the cacao tree grows, how beans are processed, and what "organic" and "fair trade" really mean in the world of cocoa. You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Examine a living cacao tree.
  • Participate in a chocolate-making demonstration.
  • Make a papercraft illustrating the origin of chocolate.
  • Taste raw cacao nibs.
  • Sample a modern version of Mexican spiced hot chocolate.
  • And more!

Space is limited; registration is required.

The Human Library is a living, breathing library where humans are the books and the stories are their lives. “Human Books” available to check out may include people who have experienced adversity due to race, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion/belief, culture, profession, and/or lifestyle. 2015 "Human Books" include: a former homeless veteran, a body artist/psychic medium, a Croatian immigrant, a survivor of child abuse, an individual in substance abuse recovery, a female rabbi, and more.
