		Dig Into Summer Reading
		Dig Into Reading this Summer at the Goodnow Library! The Goodnow Library will kickoff of our annual summer reading program on June 25^th! Celebrate the last day of school by visiting the Children’s Room and sign up to track your reading progress throughout the summer for the chance to win fun prizes! Miss Amy and Miss Kat will be visiting local schools to give students and parents more information about the program and summer events. Throughout the summer we will have book groups, sing-a-longs, science programs, truck day, a stuffed animal sleepover, weekly guessing jars, a teddy bear picnic, movies, an ice cream social, and so much more! These events will all be in addition to our fantastic regular story & craft and baby programs! Dig Into Reading is sponsored by your local library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

		The “Bookies" Book Discussion Group at the Goodnow Library – Tuesday, June 25 at 7 pm In our last meeting the “Bookies” discussed Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf. We found her classic essay on ‘Women and Fiction’ with room enough for rich conversation while winning much approval. On Tuesday, June 25 at 7 pm, the “Bookies” will next meet to discuss Team of Rivals: the Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Creating the most unusual cabinet in history, President Lincoln brought together disgruntled opponents to commit to the preservation of the union. Goodwin presents a multiple biography, intensely researched and a highly readable bestselling account published in 2005. Through a confederacy of worthy hunches, Lincoln gambled with the union so that Goodwin could ultimately make ‘good book.’ We’ll find out if the Bookies wager a united opinion or have to divide our proceeds. Just ask for a copy at the Circulation Desk and help preserve the union of the “Bookies.”

		Truck Day! Kids of all ages are invited to drop by the Goodnow Library parking lot anytime between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM to experience TRUCK DAY! Come and visit a variety of trucks from the Sudbury highway, fire and police departments. Kids young and old can touch, honk, and climb on the many vehicles that will be on display. Remember to bring your camera and have your picture taken sitting in a fire truck or snow plow! Please note that the Library parking lot will be blocked off that day. Patrons and Truck Day guests are asked to use the back parking lot at Salem Five Bank and the parking lot at the Memorial Congregational Church across the street as alternative parking.
