misc_none 7:00 PM  -  8:30 PM Local Author Talk -- Normal Schell and The Ballad of Mary Reede Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

In November of 1720, one of the most famous pirate trials of what is called ‘the golden age of piracy’ took place in Santiago de la Vega – also known as Spanish town - Jamaica.  Standing at the bar to answer for the crime of high piracy was ‘Captain’ John (Calico Jack) Rackham, along with twenty members of his crew.  Two members of this crew, far more than Rackham’s own middling reputation, were to insure that his name, and this trial, would be prominently remembered in the turbulent history of the 18th Century Caribbean pirates.

These two pirates were women, Mary Reede and Anne Bonny.

On Thursday, July 19, at 7pm Norman Schell will speak about his new novel, The Ballad of Mary Reede at LeVanway Meeting Room of the Greenfield Public Library.  The reading and a video presentation will be followed by a discussion of Piracy, past and present, and Slavery past and present. The program is free and open to the public. Copies of the novel will be available for those interested.

misc_none 6:00 PM  -  8:00 PM Author Talk -- Eric Rieseberg and Helen Noble Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

Authors Eric Rieseberg and Helen Noble will read from and talk about their books at the Greenfield Public Library on Tuesday, July 24 starting at 6pm.  Please join us for what should be an enjoyable, interesting, and informative evening!

Heroes Alongside Us by Eric Reiseberg

In high school Eric Rieseberg’s parents were advised their son should pursue a trade rather than go to college. Eight years later at the age of 26 he was the youngest hospital CEO in the country… How, Eric sums it up in just one word… heroes!

Rieseberg’s “Heroes Alongside Us” is a tribute to the men who were the key to his and many others success in life. The book defines what success is, how to achieve it, and the rewards of that achievement. The book also outlines the characteristics of “heroes”, how they became heroes, and how you can become a hero and mentor to those who need that guidance.

25,000 Seeds:  Where Love Grows by Helen Noble

Coming from Palm Beach, Claire Patterson takes a consulting project in an Ohio farming community. She canhandle this; it’s business as usual. Stepping way out of her comfort zone, she finds that fewer distractions in the rural region leaves her with more free time than she’s had in years. The new environment, new people and anunexpected romance lead to the type of introspection Claire would not have dared before, creating a remarkable shift in her life.  Claire’s desire for more in her future first takes her back over her past -- to letting go in order to make room for something new. We’ve heard it said and it’s true…the universe abhors a vacuum, and without fail the universe steps in, arranging, growing, and cultivating the seeds – her desires - that were planted before she even got there.

misc_none 10:00 AM  -  12:00 PM The Thursday Morning Club -- Author Jane Willan Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

On August 9, the GPL’s Thursday Morning Club will welcome author Jane Willan to the LeVanway Room at 10am.  Willan’s first novel, The Shadow of Death: A Sister Agatha and Father Selwyn Mystery was published in April and has been called by Publisher’s Weekly “a charming and clever traditional mystery debut set at a bucolic Welsh convent… Perfect for fans of G. M. Malliet and M. C. Beaton.”

Reverend Jane Willan is a parish minister and author in Paxton, MA.  She serves the First Congregational Church of Paxton and lives in the church parsonage with her husband Don and their two rescue dogs, Magi and Moses.

Before moving to Paxton, Jane served congregations in the Iowa Conference of the United Church of Christ in the small town of Creston and the larger-but-still-small town of Burlington, Iowa.

Before becoming an ordained pastor, Jane worked in Boston as a science editor, a freelance science writer, a teacher, and a brief stint in biological research at Harvard.  In 2003, she became a full-time pastor and took her first church in Iowa.

Jane completed her undergraduate work at Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio.  She has a Master of Science degree from Boston University, and a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt Divinity School.

Bart Jordan describes his consulting work for NASA for their 1976 Mars Viking 1 Mission. It was after learning about the Plutonium content on board a NASA 'Cassini Earth flyby' that he contacted Flyby News and provided commentary on how ancient civilizations knew all about development of such isotopes, and how this development was like pushing death into our corner.

I was influenced to take Bart Jordan seriously due to his record of accomplishments. To list two: he lectured at five different Departments at the University of NH; and was a classical guitarist, who studied with the renowned Andre Segovia. But there was more. Bart Jordan worked anonymously, supplying scientists in U.S. government agencies with measurements he discovered as a child. He confirmed that these measures from ancient sources, such as the Hellenic, Germanic, and Semitic peoples. Using an ancient alphabet-frequency-number system, he calculated the distances of moons from the center of Mars. These four measures appeared in the statistical box of Encyclopaedia Britannica’s article on Mars, running from 1966 to 1973.

For more on Bart Jordan and evidence of technologically advanced pre-ice-age civilizations, see URL:
