It's a Mystery to Me: Popular mystery/suspence authors Hallie Ephron and Hank Phillippi Ryan describe the writing process—getting that first idea, creating characters, doing the research, and the daily writing schedule that gets it done. Please register anytime through this event calendar (email address required) or by calling the library after Sept. 1st. Sponsored by the Friends of the Holmes Public Library.

About Hallie Ephron
New York Times-
bestselling author Hallie Ephron grew up in a family of writers and a household filled with books. Her parents were Henry and Phoebe Ephron who wrote screenplays for classic movies like Carousel and Daddy Long Legs. Hallie was the last of their four daughters (Nora, Delia, Hallie, Amy) to start writing or, as she calls it, succumb to her genes. Now Hallie writes suspense novels she hopes keep readers up nights. An Edgar Award finalist and a three-time finalist for the Mary Higgins Clark Award, Hallie grew up in Beverly Hills where her new suspense novel, Night Night, Sleep Tight, is set. The story is inspired by Hallie’s experiences growing up there in a Hollywood family, and by  an infamous Hollywood murder.

About Hank Phillippi Ryan
Hank Phillippi Ryan is the on-air investigative reporter for Boston's NBC affiliate. She's won 33 EMMYs, 13 Edward R. Murrow awards and dozens of other honors for her groundbreaking journalism. A bestselling author of seven mystery novels, Ryan has won multiple prestigious awards for her crime fiction: five Agathas, the Anthony, Daphne, Macavity, and for The Other Woman, the coveted Mary Higgins Clark Award. Her 2013 novel, The Wrong Girl, won both the Agatha Award for Best Contemporary Novel and the Daphne Award for Mainstream Mystery/Suspense, and was a seven-week Boston Globe bestseller. Her newest hardcover, Truth Be Told, is the Agatha Award winner for Best Contemporary Novel and an Anthony Award nominee for Best Novel. Ryan's next novel, What You See, will debut in Fall 2015. She's a founding teacher at Mystery Writers of America University and 2013 president of the national Sisters in Crime organization.
