If you are thinking about doing something to give back to the community and looking for a volunteer activity that leaves you fulfilled and involves a flexible time commitment? Join the Friends! The Friends of the Hazen Memorial Library are a non-profit group that promote the town library and raises funds for library items and public programs that would otherwise be outside the limited library budget.

He's Back! Join us Thursday night for another Wicked Good Evening with Channel 5 WCVB's Chronicle Journalist Ted Reinstein!

New England's feuds have peppered the region's life for centuries. Ted Reinstein offers us fascinating stories from history of New England in this fun, accessible book, available for purchase and signing at the end of his talk.Bringing to life many of the fights, spats, and arguments that have shaped the area itself, Reinstein demonstrates what it really means to be Wicked Pissed.

This is a free program sponsored by the Friends of The Hazen Memorial Library

No reservations needed - light refreshments will be served.

Starting Monday May 2nd the Family Partnership of Ayer, Shirley and Devens is offering a new Story and Yoga Class (kids ages 3-5). The children will learn some wonderful yoga techniques and a story will be incorporated within each class.  This class will run for 6 weeks, starting May 2nd, and running through the 13th of June (no class on Monday May 30th).  The class runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Mandy Roberge is a lifelong Early Childhood Educator and Certified Kids' Yoga Instructor. Currently, she holds workshops for kids and teens at libraries all over the state and serves as a Playgroup Facilitator for The Family Partnership Center in Ayer.

Participants should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and bring a beach towel and yoga mat to class. Eat lightly 2+ hours before class.

YOGA WALK-IN POLICY: $5 per Senior Yoga Class
All walk-ins must complete a registration form before participating.
Maximum capacity is 16 people per class. Registered students have first consideration.

Nashoba Nursing Service and Hospice provides a safe and comfortable environment for adults to express the thoughts and feelings you may experience due to the loss of a loved one. Joining a grief support group can be a healthy step in your journey of grieving and healing.

This is an ongoing drop-in session for adults seeking support during the grieving process. Topics of coping and living with grief will be discussed.

Support groups are facilitated by hospice professionals or volunteers trained in bereavement. If counseling is needed beyond the level of this support group, a list of competent professional counselors can be provided.

Registration is not required. There is no fee to join.

Science is Everywhere STEM Grant Program

Create a Solar Car! Learn about renewable energy in cars. Students will create their own solar powered car and observe the use of the sun's energy to power a vehicle. Indoors or outdoors, this project is sure to excite and give students a sense of wonder.

Science is Everywhere STEM Grant Program

Students will build their own hydraulic lift and learn about the transfer of energy used to increase force. They will demonstrate the basic principles of hydraulics. Their project will enable them to observe the way force is moved from one place to another and measure the movements that many familiar hydraulic machines demonstrate.

The Hazen Memorial Library is hosting a book club for adults who are interested in reading and discussing Science Fiction and Fantasy literature.

We will hold the next meeting on Tuesday, May 31st at 6:00pm to discuss Scott Hawkins’ novel The Library at Mount Char. New members are welcome! Refreshments will be provided!

The children will learn some wonderful yoga techniques and a story will be incorporated within each class.  This class will run for 6 weeks, starting May 2nd, and running through the 13th of June (no class on Monday May 30th).  The class runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. 

Mandy Roberge is a lifelong Early Childhood Educator and Certified Kids' Yoga Instructor. Currently, she holds workshops for kids and teens at libraries all over the state and serves as a Playgroup Facilitator for The Family Partnership Center in Ayer.

Cost: $30 for Shirley residents / $35 for non-residents.

Registration deadline is December 2.

This class is for seniors who are more mobile and want to have a little challenge. We'll use the chairs for general alignment, standing & reclined postures to improve breathing, posture, and flexibility.
Participants should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and bring a beach towel and yoga mat to class. Eat lightly 2+ hours before class.

YOGA WALK-IN POLICY: $5 per Senior Yoga Class
All walk-ins must complete a registration form before participating.
Maximum capacity is 16 people per class. Registered students have first consideration.
