misc_none 6:00 PM  -  7:00 PM Science Fiction & Fantasy Book Club Remind Me about this Event   Tell a Friend

The Hazen Memorial Library is hosting a book club for adults who are interested in reading and discussing Science Fiction and Fantasy literature.

We will hold the next meeting on Tuesday, February 16th at 6:00pm to discuss Terry Pratchett’s novel Mort. New members are welcome! Refreshments will be provided!

Please call or visit the Hazen Memorial Library to order your copy of the book.

Description of Novel

New York Times bestselling author Sir Terry Pratchett makes Death a central character in Mort, his fourth sojourn to Discworld, the fantasy cosmos where even the angel of darkness needs some assistance.

When inept, but well-intentioned Mort gets only one offer for an apprenticeship—with Death—he can’t exactly turn it down. But Mort finds that being Death’s right-hand man isn’t as bad as it seems—until he falls back to his old, bumbling ways.

With more than 80 million books sold worldwide, Pratchett has solidified his place next to Mark Twain, Kurt Vonnegut, and Douglas Adams as one of the top satirists of all time. Mort offers readers an unlikely set of heroes and a comical, yet poignant look at life through the lens of its antithesis.

Who’s watching you? Find out on February 16 when Eyes On Owls presents a live owl program at the Hazen Memorial Library funded by a grant from the Shirley Charitable Foundation. All who attend are in for some fun with close-up views of these secretive birds of prey. Naturalists Marcia and Mark Wilson will present “Who’s Watching You? Owls of the World.

The Wilson's will introduce owls found in New England as well as other parts of the world. Marcia imitates the owls' calls herself, paying special attention to the more common owls that we might encounter in our area. After a hooting lesson and much audience anticipation, Marcia brings out the live owls one at a time. With each owl perched securely on her gloved hand, she walks out among the audience with six or seven owls. There is plenty of time for close-up views, photos and questions.

This program is recommened for ages 5 and up. Please register as we are limited to room capacity.

Preference is given to Shirley Residents.

Nashoba Nursing Service and Hospice provides a safe and comfortable environment for adults to express the thoughts and feelings you may experience due to the loss of a loved one. Joining a grief support group can be a healthy step in your journey of grieving and healing.

This is an ongoing drop-in session for adults seeking support during the grieving process. Topics of coping and living with grief will be discussed.

Support groups are facilitated by hospice professionals or volunteers trained in bereavement. If counseling is needed beyond the level of this support group, a list of competent professional counselors can be provided.

Registration is not required. There is no fee to join.

For more information, contact Karen Campbell, Coordinator of Bereavement Services at 1-800-698-3307 ext. 320.
