The Hazen Memorial Library is hosting a book club for adults who are interested in reading and discussing Science Fiction and Fantasy literature.

We will hold the next meeting on Tuesday, May 31st at 6:00pm to discuss Scott Hawkins’ novel The Library at Mount Char. New members are welcome! Refreshments will be provided!

Please call or visit the Hazen Memorial Library to order your copy of the book.

Yoga classes for Seniors sponsored by Shirley Recreation will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 tonight in the library meeting room.

Please contact the Recreation office at (978)425-2600 ext. 270 with questions or to register.

Cost: $30 for Shirley residents / $35 for non-residents.
Make checks payable to Town of Shirley Recreation and mail to 7 Keady Way, Shirley MA 01464.

Registration deadline is February 24.

This class is for seniors who are more mobile and want to have a little challenge. We'll use the chairs for general alignment, standing & reclined postures to improve breathing, posture, and flexibility.
Participants should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing and bring a beach towel and yoga mat to class. Eat lightly 2+ hours before class.

YOGA WALK-IN POLICY: $5 per Senior Yoga Class
All walk-ins must complete a registration form before participating.
Maximum capacity is 16 people per class. Registered students have first consideration.

Nashoba Nursing Service and Hospice provides a safe and comfortable environment for adults to express the thoughts and feelings you may experience due to the loss of a loved one. Joining a grief support group can be a healthy step in your journey of grieving and healing.

This is an ongoing drop-in session for adults seeking support during the grieving process. Topics of coping and living with grief will be discussed.

Support groups are facilitated by hospice professionals or volunteers trained in bereavement. If counseling is needed beyond the level of this support group, a list of competent professional counselors can be provided.

Registration is not required. There is no fee to join.

Starting Monday May 2nd the Family Partnership of Ayer, Shirley and Devens is offering a new Story and Yoga Class (kids ages 3-5). The children will learn some wonderful yoga techniques and a story will be incorporated within each class.  This class will run for 6 weeks, starting May 2nd, and running through the 13th of June (no class on Monday May 30th).  The class runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. 

Mandy Roberge is a lifelong Early Childhood Educator and Certified Kids' Yoga Instructor. Currently, she holds workshops for kids and teens at libraries all over the state and serves as a Playgroup Facilitator for The Family Partnership Center in Ayer.

 "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!" Children's, "Get in the Game, READ!" Teen and "Exercise Your Mind, READ!" Adult 2016 Summer Reading Programs begin!  Join Jungle Jim tonight for The Reading Olympics! This awesome balloon magic show contains Jim's signature brand of balloon artistry, magic, comedy, storytelling and improvisation with over 15 volunteers taking part. Archery, basketball, fencing and even Scottish caber toss are just some of the events that our "athletes" will compete in. Most importantly, Jim will incorporate just how important reading and staying active work together. Come early to sign up for Summer Reading as this program is our kick-off! Summer Reading is Sponsored by The Friends of the Hazen Memorial Library, the Massachusetts Library System, the Boston Bruins, and the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.

Science Educator Steve Lechner from The Science Works will provide an enrichment series featuring creative and innovative inquiry-based science experiences for children aged 3-7. Utilizing hands-on experiments, puppets, activities, a bit of magic and just plain fun, Steve will introduce children to the wonders of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (S.T.E.M.)! Join the Friends of the Hazen Memorial Library for an afternoon of Library Olympic Games and Activities as part of the On Your Mark get Set, READ! Summer Reading program. Families are invited to a fun afternoon of olympic challenges with hotdogs, drinks and snacks for sale (all proceeds go to the Friends). For each olympic trial, participants will receive a ticket for the grand prizes awarded at the Summer Reading finale!
