This is the first workshop in our entrepreneur series. If you have ever wondered if you could turn your interests or hobbies into an income, then this workshop is for you. There are people who will pay you to share your passion, skills and talents with them. This program provides the guidance, encouragement and support needed to discover your passion and to transform it into a money-making activity. Topics will include: understanding the nature of being passionate about what you know and what you do, brainstorming, goal charting, mentoring, networking, and developing your passion into a business. The program will be held in the Community Room. Registration is required for this free program.

The AARP DEFENSE DRIVING COURSE will be offered in one session, Thursday, February 25th, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Successful completion of this class will remove up to 4 points from your driving record, entitles you to an insurance discount, and make you a better driver. Registration must be done in person. There is a fee of $12.00 per person for AARP members and $14.00 per person for non-AARP members due at the time of registration, checks or money orders payable to AARP. If you are an AARP Member, you must present your AARP Membership Card at the time of registration. Hempstead Village residents may register starting on Friday, February 12th. Non-residents may register beginning Friday, February 19th. Class size is limited. Bring lunch or a snack. The class will meet in the Community Room. This is the second in our entrepreneur series. Successful retired executives from SCORE, a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration will be presenting a workshop on Starting and Growing Your Own Business. This workshop is intended for people who want to start their own businesses, as well as existing business owners .The workshop will include:
• Basics of setting up your business – choosing a product or service, selecting a name, skill requirements.
• Legal and tax requirements, including legal entity structures (Corporations, partnerships, etc.).
• Marketing your product or service – research, finding target customers and advertising.
• Business Plan basics and financing.
• Learn about free one –on-one counseling services from SCORE.
