    Contact: Adult Services   708-301-7908   askalibrarian@homerlibrary.org

The story of the Yorkie Doodle Dandy is one that is a great tribute to our veterans, including all dogs of war.  From a lucky chance discovery at the bottom of an abandoned fox hole in New Guinea during WWII, to becoming a famous entertainer, a decorated war hero, and the world’s first official Therapy Dog of record, Smoky’s story is nothing short of amazing.  After being rescued in the jungle she went on to be named the number one mascot in the South Pacific, she earned a medal of honor and eight battle stars for her bravery and for the lives she saved, and she was the dog that inspired the creation of today’s therapy dog programs.  These would be major feats for any canine, but all the more so when you find out that Smoky was a tiny 4 lb. Yorkshire Terrier! Learn about Smoky’s accomplishments in this inspirational program presented by Adrian and Denise Brigham.
