Newport, Rhode Island –  Scenic Overview and Grand Mansion Tour

Enjoy the charm of Newport’s historic buildings and restored homes on this narrated tour covering over 150 points of interest. Take in the rugged beauty of Ten-Mile Ocean Drive  and the fabulous mansions along tree-lined Bellevue Avenue.
Return to the early 20th century and the elaborate period of “America’s Gilded Age” on this comprehensive tour.  You’ll travel through Ocean Drive and Bellevue Avenue area with its famous mansions, the “summer cottages” of the country’s elite in the early 1900s’. This excursion will bring you to The Elms mansion to see Newport social life at the turn of the century. Built by Pennsylvania coal millionaire Edward J. Berwind in 1901, The Elms is styled after a sumptuous French château. The estate contains every technological marvel of the time and was one of the first Newport houses to be fully electrified.   After your Audio Tour visit the elaborate Classical Revival gardens on the grounds that were developed between 1907 and 1914. They include terraces displaying marble and bronze sculpture, a park of fine specimen trees and a lavish lower garden featuring marble pavilions, fountains, a sunken garden and carriage house and garage. We’ll stop by the terrace of the historic carriage house at The Elms for our included lunch and enjoy umbrella-shaded bistro tables, overlooking the Grand Allee, fountains and sunken garden (indoor seating is also available).

$85 per person includes round trip mini-bus transportation (Beauport), step-on guide, Audio Tour of the Elms, lunch at the Elms and some free time to enjoy shopping on quaint Thames Street or just strolling along the Cliff Walk or all the beautiful residential neighborhoods.

Leave the Community House at 8:30am and return around 6pm

The Yang-Style Short Form was created in 1956. At that time China’s top Tai Chi masters wanted to simplify and de-mystify this ancient art to make it available to everyone. This form has now become the most popular Tai Chi form in the world and is the most popular of our classes at Great Bay Tai Chi. Most students will start with the Short Form or Beginners’ class, while those looking for something more physical will try the Long form . Great Bay Tai chi
