Mark Twain’s classic novel established America's vision of childhood and reminded adults that children were not angels, but fellow human beings, and perhaps all the more lovable for their imperfections and bad grooming.

WORD UP! is a poetry slam open to students enrolled in high school in Jefferson County. The participants in WORD UP! will be the winners of contests held at their schools. Students will write and perform original poetry inspired by a major theme from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
