CAPTAIN AMERICA - CIVIL WAR

Friday Night Movie: Captain America Civil War  | Rated PG-13 | 147 min.

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

Hispanic Heritage Month: Molina Speaks and Eutimia Cruz Montoya

Don’t miss our series of special performances to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Bring the whole family and enjoy a truly unique show by two amazing local talents, Adrian Molina, a.k.a. Molina Speaks and Eutimia Cruz Montoya.

According to his web bio, Adrian Molina, a.k.a. Molina Speaks "hails from a small gritty working class town you might think of as 'nowhere.' He proves there is Soul everywhere. He balances humble roots and urban grit, street smarts and cultural knowledge, lyrical skills and philosophy." Speaks describes himself as a Chicano/Latino/Indigenous/Mestizo Futurist. Molina Speaks will perform using poetry to express heritage for the voices, stories, and power of youth and communities of color." His performance, which is family-oriented, will last approximately 20-30 minutes.

Eutimia Cruz Montoya is a lineage-raised contemporary curandera, herbalist, licensed acupuncturist, Real Foods Activist, and Food Systems Educator. She is the descendant of New Mexican curanderos (spiritual healers), and learned the healing ways in the home. She grew up participating in indigenous American song, dance and prayer traditions, giving her an inborn connection to, and understanding of Body and Source. Eutimia has a degree in the Anthropological Sciences from Stanford University, a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine, and has been studying and practicing Classical Chinese Medicine since 2004. As a "modern day medicine woman," she travels often to share her healing gifts with the global community, and continue on her healing path as a life-long student of the 'medicine ways' of the world.

The Denver Veteran Writing Workshop (DVWW) will fill a void in our community: stories of our military personnel, their families, loved ones, and friends. The DVWW will be a safe space for people to share and workshop prose, poetry, and hybrid texts. The DVWW aims to create more writers. And not just writers who craft stories, but writers who can construct a curriculum and instruct, who read in public and work on larger projects. The goal of the DVWW is to help people create a skill set that is applicable beyond the classroom. We intend to find new ways to interpret and process oneself and the world through writing, reading, and community. The DVWW is coordinated by Jason Arment, who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Machine Gunner in the USMC and earned an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. http://www.coloradohumanities.org/content/denver-veteran-writing-workshop

Being mortal : medicine and what matters in the end / Atul GawandeModern medicine has transformed our lives, but what is its role in the inescapable reality of aging and death? Dr. Atul Gawande’s Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End has spent more than a year on the New York Times Best Seller list and fostered countless conversations about medicine and end-of-life issues. Author Gawande offers examples of freer, more socially fulfilling models for assisting those who are sick and the dependent elderly. He explores the varieties of hospice care to demonstrate that a person's last weeks or months may be rich and dignified. A palliative care professional from Lutheran Hospice joins our discussion. We’ll also watch part of the PBS Frontline documentary, Being Mortal. All are welcome for this one-time community discussion.
