misc_none 2:30 PM  -  4:30 PM Acoustic Arvada: Picking at the Library Remind Me about this Event Download Event Info Tell a Friend

Unplug with us at our once a month music session. If you’re a teen-or-older musician, bring your acoustic instruments and play together around the “campfire.”  Share your own songs with the group and/or we’ll showcase songbooks and other resources from our collection. Arvada is full of fine musicians and this is a great way to mingle and learn a thing or two from the more experienced instrumentalists. Come pick a little, play a little...or just listen!

    Contact: Ian Livingston   303-235-5275   ian.livingston-caneiro@jeffcolibrary.org

Don’t miss our series of special performances to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Bring the whole family and enjoy a truly unique show by two amazing local talents, Adrian Molina, a.k.a. Molina Speaks and Eutimia Cruz Montoya.

According to his web bio, Adrian Molina, a.k.a. Molina Speaks "hails from a small gritty working class town you might think of as 'nowhere.' He proves there is Soul everywhere. He balances humble roots and urban grit, street smarts and cultural knowledge, lyrical skills and philosophy." Speaks describes himself as a Chicano/Latino/Indigenous/Mestizo Futurist. Molina Speaks will perform using poetry to express heritage for the voices, stories, and power of youth and communities of color." His performance, which is family-oriented, will last approximately 20-30 minutes.

Eutimia Cruz Montoya is a lineage-raised contemporary curandera, herbalist, licensed acupuncturist, Real Foods Activist, and Food Systems Educator. She is the descendant of New Mexican curanderos (spiritual healers), and learned the healing ways in the home. She grew up participating in indigenous American song, dance and prayer traditions, giving her an inborn connection to, and understanding of Body and Source. Eutimia has a degree in the Anthropological Sciences from Stanford University, a Master of Science degree in Oriental Medicine, and has been studying and practicing Classical Chinese Medicine since 2004. As a "modern day medicine woman," she travels often to share her healing gifts with the global community, and continue on her healing path as a life-long student of the 'medicine ways' of the world.

misc_none 3:00 PM  -  4:45 PM Public Meeting - Denver Veteran Writing Workshop #3 Remind Me about this Event Download Event Info Tell a Friend

The Denver Veteran Writing Workshop (DVWW) will fill a void in our community: stories of our military personnel, their families, loved ones, and friends. The DVWW will be a safe space for people to share and workshop prose, poetry, and hybrid texts. The DVWW aims to create more writers. And not just writers who craft stories, but writers who can construct a curriculum and instruct, who read in public and work on larger projects. The goal of the DVWW is to help people create a skill set that is applicable beyond the classroom. We intend to find new ways to interpret and process oneself and the world through writing, reading, and community. The DVWW is coordinated by Jason Arment, who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Machine Gunner in the USMC and earned an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. http://www.coloradohumanities.org/content/denver-veteran-writing-workshop

Now we're cookin'! Do you love browsing through cookbooks, trying new recipes or cooking techniques? Hang onto your spatula because here’s a group for you. We have a new theme each month and group members can bring a prepared dish from either one of the cookbooks chosen, or their own! Join the conversation and if you choose to bring food (never required!), here are some things to remember:

  • Food should reflect the current or an upcoming topic.
  • Be enough for 4-6 people to sample a bite. (More is always welcome!)
  • Bring the recipe to share.

It doesn't matter if you're new to the kitchen or can make a soufflé with your eyes closed. Either way, everyone has fun.

misc_none 6:30 PM  -  7:30 PM Public Meeting - Women for Peace Remind Me about this Event Download Event Info Tell a Friend

If you are ready for peace and ready to make a difference, this is the group for you. Women for Peace is made up of circles of women of all faiths and cultures who share the dream/vision of peace. As women, we know something important about peace and this moment in history. We know it from our rich experiences in the world and we know it from a place of deep wisdom within. Our unique patterns of knowing are part of a larger pattern of feminine wisdom being called forth at this time in service of this Earth and of humanity. We are mothers, daughters, sisters and friends who are ready to raise human consciousness to that of peace. This is going to be a different kind of conversation, a structured opportunity for each woman to speak from her heart and to listen deeply to others. We are small circles of women meeting locally all across the globe forming a huge web of Women for Peace. We demonstrate oneness by women of diverse cultures and spiritual beliefs coming together to discuss bringing peace to the Denver Metro Area and the world. As the circles spread they create an interlocking world wide web of peace consciousness. We envision the Circles of Peace being an instrument where humanity awakens to its spiritual magnificence and where every person discovers their personal power and ability to create a life of peace and love. Members take personal responsibility right where they are to sustain peace in their daily life in every area of their community. When people gather in a sacred circle, a space of collective consciousness and wisdom is created which inspires collective passion. When the members of the circle go about their daily lives, the consciousness continues with them throughout the week until they gather again, at which time the collective peace consciousness grows larger and brighter. The world is crying and praying for peace. It is a safe, nurturing and validating circle of people focused on peace and love for all. The circles are the microcosm of a One Global Family where each member honors and values their interconnectedness through spiritual wisdom and experience and the macrocosm expands to the interconnectedness of all life. The Circles of Peace become a network for the emergence of the global consciousness of peace and love for all life. We envision the circles providing a culture of forgiveness between the diverse faiths and cultures which spreads into the community. This Group offers a safe and sacred space where women can explore the edges of women’s spiritual leadership. This vibrant community of inter-generational women from diverse spiritual traditions is engaged in a bold experiment to discover new ways of doing things that are in alignment with feminine principle, always remaining open to guidance from Spirit.
