A lady's life in the Rocky Mountains

Love to discuss great reads? That's what we do at the Tuesday Night Book Group. This month we're discussing A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains by Isabella Bird. The letters that make up this volume were first published in 1879. They tell of magnificent, unspoiled landscapes and abundant wildlife, of encounters with rattlesnakes, wolves, pumas and grizzly bears, and her reactions to the volatile passions of the miners and pioneer settlers. A classic account of a truly astounding journey. New members always welcome!

Between the world and me

Tuesday nights are when our Conifer Book Group gets together to discuss great reads. This month we're discussing Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. In a series of essays, written as a letter to his son, Coates confronts the notion of race in America and how it has shaped American history, many times at the cost of black bodies and lives. Thoughtfully exploring personal and historical events, from his time at Howard University to the Civil War, the author poignantly asks and attempts to answer difficult questions that plague modern society. New members always welcome!

misc_none 6:00 PM  -  7:30 PM Nourishment for Body, Mind and Spirit; Self care tips for your whole being Remind Me about this Event Download Event Info Tell a Friend

Nourishment goes beyond “feeding” ourselves. Choosing what to consume into our bodies, minds, and hearts—as well as what we choose not to let in—often makes the difference between health and disease. Nourishment is not just about eating healthy foods; it’s also about choosing our thoughts, processing our feelings, and eliminating toxic substances, people, and situations. Create a vital life for yourself!

Topics for discussion:

  • Eating consciously
  • Assessing the health of our relationships; do they nourish or drain you?
  • Listening for how you talk to yourself
  • Consider yourself as sacred ground; how do you treat your “temple”?

Dr. Kelley Eden brings her deep compassion and vast expertise in mind/body medicine. She discusses how to navigate and recover from stress, as well as how to build resilience in all aspects of your being so you can more quickly recover from life's difficult events. Leave with self-care tools, and new ideas for staying whole and healthy in your life.
