This is a collaborative exhibition exploring the work and life of writer/artist Sandra Gould Ford with photographer LaToya Ruby Frazier. Ms Ford worked as a clerk/secretary at the Jones and Laughlin Steel Company in the mid 70’s-80’s. Photography was banned, but Ms Ford covertly photographed inside the plant before and after it closed capturing life inside the mills. Included is an archive, Ford collected on the history of the mill. Ms Gould will be our docent. Ms. Frazier has made many of the prints as cyanotypes, “19th century photographic process that renders images in shades of blue, referencing an architect's blueprint and the idea of “blue collar” work. Early cyanotypes of plants were used as scientific records by botanists, creating images that fell between document and artwork.”

Address: August Wilson Center, 980 Liberty Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15222

Admission Fee: Free, but donations to non-profit Silver Eye Center for Photography 4808 Penn Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15224 are always appreciated and support future exhibitions. info@silvereye.org

Come join with others who want to explore our Pittsburgh. Visit museums both large and small, delve into fun activities and discover hidden gems in our neighborhood. We meet monthly, day and time will vary according to the activity. This is an adult only (ages 18+). This month, we're headed to the Frick Mansion for a docent-led tour of their current exhibit - Undressed: A History of Fashion in Underwear.

The Frick Art & Historical Center is a cluster of museums focused on the life and times of Henry Clay Frick (Gilded Age). This will be a docent let tour in The Frick Art Museum.

The fascinating and sometimes controversial story of underwear design from the 18th century to the present day is told in this blockbuster exhibition organized by London’s Victoria & Albert Museum. Taking a serious look at an alluring subject, Undressed illustrates how undergarments reflect society’s changing ideas about the body, morality, and sex, and examines the intimate relationship between underwear and fashion and its role in molding the body to an always changing fashionable ideal. Organized into thematic sections that explore such ideas as relaxation, revelation, temptation, transformation, and performance, Undressed looks at how our undergarments shape our bodies, and reveal things about ourselves.

Address:  7227 Reynolds Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15208

Admission: $16 paid in cash at the Cooper-Siegel Community Library Reference Desk before 11/5. The reference desk is near the back of the library, main floor. This event is Limited to 25 people. There is free parking and this event is handicapped friendly

Try your hand (foot?) at snowshoeing with Allegheny County Parks! We're going outside the library today to do some showshoeing (weather permitting - let's hope for snow!) at Hartwood Acres. Beginners to advanced, all ages welcome! Snowshoe rentals ($10 for ages 11+ and $5  for 10 and under) or bring your own. This fun winter activity is a greay way to get out and see the park in the wintertime while also getting your body moving! Because this is a winter program and requires at least 6" of snow, if we don't have the white-stuff that we require, we'll head out on a brisk and fun winter hike instead so come anyway! (meeting spot TBA)
