Loveland Lights: A Celebration of Winter Holiday Traditions

Activities throughout the library all open hours on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5 & 6. LOVELAND LIGHTS, sponsored by the Friends of the Library Foundation, provides entertainment and information about the winter holiday traditions of a variety of cultures. Activities for children include creating a gingerbread house, searching for bells "hidden" around the library, a craft activity related to the story of The Polar Express, a visit with people from Ecuador and Argentina telling about their holiday traditions, and an explanation of the celebration of chanukah. Adults will be able to get ideas for preparing holiday party foods, listen to a variety of musical groups, and learn a holiday craft. All ages will enjoy viewing a model railroad, a variety of decorated trees, wood carvers at work, collections of holiday related items such as ornaments, cards, and a ceramic snow village. Baked goods and holiday books will be available for sale. A special feature will be voting on the best Gingerbread house among those created by community leaders and organizations. These will be auctioned as seasonal decorations. Participants are also invited to decorate a tree with mittens, gloves and hats that will be donated to the House of Neighborly Services.
