Speaking Heals

Christopher Genovese shares his personal journey from the growing pains of self-doubt, perceived pressures and inadequate coping skills through the downward progression of drug abuse and eventually to recovery and inner peace.

Teen Program - Leadership and Community Action:  Girls Breaking Barriers

Wednesdays, April 15, 22, & 29, and May 6, 13, 20, & 27, 2015 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Innovation Station

This exciting program, presented through Girls Inc., will teach girls in grades 9-12 to plan, shoot and edit a Public Service Announcement.  Participants will identify issues in today's society and your community, choose a topic of group concern to address, develop an effective message, learn the phases and techniques of video production and practice camera, lighting and audio skills.  Participants will also earn community service hours and at our last session, friends and family are invited to view the public service announcement.  

Levittown UFSD girls in grades 9-12 may register beginning Wednesday, March 18, at 9:00 a.m. in the Teen Lounge.

May is Older Americans Month!

Adult Program:  Neal Stuart and The Empire State

Thursday, May 28, at 2:00 p.m.

We will pay tribute to our older Americans at the library with a spectacular concert with music from the late, great Johnny Maestro performed by veteran musicians of the 1950’ to the 1990’s.  

In-person, limited free tickets are available beginning Thursday, May 7, at 9:00 a.m. at the Reference Desk for LUFSD residents, and non-residents May 14, at 9:00 a.m.  

Limit 2 tickets per patron.  Light refreshments served.

Stretching may increase flexibility and improve the range of motion of your joints.  Because stretching is a low impact exercise, it is appropriate for people of al ages to do.  It will help people with reduced mobility to build and strengthen their muscles.  The exercise taht stretching provides for the body increases the amount of blood flow through the body.

A non-refundable $24.00 fee, check or money order, made payable to the Levittown Public Library, is due upon registration.  Each registered person must sign a physical release form prior to the first class.  Single person registration.  Limited in-person registration for Levittown UFSD residents begins Monday, May 4, at 9:00 a.m. at the Reference Desk.

Levittown Public Library Bus Trip to the

Amish Farmlands Tour & Kitchen Kettle Village

Tuesday, June 2, 2015 

$89.00 per person includes:  

bus tour of Amish farmlands, walking dairy barn tour with a prepared lunch in an Amish home, shopping at Kitchen Kettle Village, snacks, and all gratuities.

We will depart from the library at 7:15 a.m. for the Pennsylvania Amish Country to meet our guide at 12:00 p.m. and enjoy a narrated bus tour of the Amish farmlands.  We will then enjoy the ultimate experience of a family-style lunch prepared by the Amish inside one of their homes, yes their kitchen is that big!  After lunch we will tour an AMish organic dairy farm, where we will learn how they run a successful dairy operation.  At 3:00 p.m. we will visit Kitchen Kettle Village, which offers authentic Pennsylvania Dutch shopping, home made foods, and specialty shops.  If possible, we will visit a rest stop going and returning.  We will depart at 4:00 p.m. to return to the library approximately 8:15 p.m.

In-person ticket sale for Levittown UFSD residents begins on Thursday, March 26, at 6:00 p.m.  Limit 2 tickets per patron. Non-refundable payment is due at the time of registration.  Money order or check accepted (no cash), made payable to the Levittown Public Library.

LPL Summer Reading Kick-Off Outdoor Festival!

Saturday, June 13, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Join us for a fun-filled festival to kick-off registration for our Children’s, Teen and Adult Summer Reading Programs.  

Library staff will be available in Levittown Veterans Memorial Park to register patrons of all ages for our summer reading programs that include library events throughout the summer.  Patrons that register during the festival will be entered into a raffle prize drawing to be held at various times during the festival.  Patrons must be present to win.  

               

Patricia Shih, singer/songwriter, will perform You Can be a Hero, an interactive concert based on the Children’s Summer Reading theme “Every Hero Has A Story.” Grins and Grins will amuse all with their comedic variety show, and The Squeaky Clean Band will have everyone singing along as they play Rock and Roll for all ages.  Other attractions will include:  an Author Garden for book signing and discussions;  a Craft Garden where patrons can participate in various art & craft programs; Meet Everyday Heroes, Volunteer Firefighters, Police, Ambulance Corps, Military, service animals, and others.  Visit the Vanderbilt Museum’s Discovering the Universe Van & Levittown Fire Department’s Smokehouse.  Have your picture taken in the photo booth.  Enjoy food, giveaways, and much more!

Welcome to our Annual 
Adult Summer Reading Program.  
Our theme this summer is 

 In-person registration begins Saturday, June 13th during our Summer Reading Kick-Off Outdoor Festival! 

You will receive a prize upon registration and another prize after you submit reviews or remarks for three books.  All forms of reading material are acceptable.  

To be eligible for further prize drawings, you must submit the initial three book reviews or remarks.  Registration starts Saturday, June 13th during our Summer Reading Kick-Off Outdoor Festival, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  There will be free entertainment, music, author garden, art & craft programs, photo booth, interactive activities, raffle prizes, and refreshments for the public to enjoy (see the newsletter front page for more details.)  You may also register either online or at the Reference Desk until July 20th.  

Book reviews will be accepted through August 15th.  The program ends August 20th with an End of Summer Reading Program Party from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., with refreshments, prize drawings, discussions, and a guest author.  Enjoy the summer!

Online Teen Summer Reading Program

Teens entering grades 6 through 12:  join the Levittown Public Library’s online teen Summer Reading Program.  
Register at our Summer Reading Kick-Off Outdoor Festival on Saturday, June 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  There will be free entertainment, interactive activities, patron art & craft programs, photo booth, author garden, raffle prizes, giveaways, and refreshments for the public to enjoy (see the newsletter front page for more details.) 
Teens unable to attend the Festival may register online starting Saturday, June 13, and begin logging your time right away.  Whatever you’re reading, log your time for a chance to win weekly drawing prizes.  All participants who complete 600 minutes of reading will be eligible to receive a Certificate of Participation.  Those who complete 600 minutes by Thursday, August 6 will receive an invitation to our End of Summer event, which will include a Grand Drawing.  Call or visit the Teen Lounge for more details.

Stretching may increase flexibility and improve the range of motion of your joints.  Because stretching is a low impact exercise, it is appropriate for people of al ages to do.  It will help people with reduced mobility to build and strengthen their muscles.  The exercise taht stretching provides for the body increases the amount of blood flow through the body.

A non-refundable $24.00 fee, check or money order, made payable to the Levittown Public Library, is due upon registration.  Each registered person must sign a physical release form prior to the first class.  Single person registration.  Limited in-person registration for Levittown UFSD residents begins Monday, May 4, at 9:00 a.m. at the Reference Desk.

Mondays, May 4 through June 29, 2015 (no class on May 25)

from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Stretching may increase flexibility and improve the range of motion of your joints.  Because stretching is a low impact exercise, it is appropriate for people of al ages to do.  It will help people with reduced mobility to build and strengthen their muscles.  The exercise taht stretching provides for the body increases the amount of blood flow through the body.

A non-refundable $24.00 fee, check or money order, made payable to the Levittown Public Library, is due upon registration.  Each registered person must sign a physical release form prior to the first class.  Single person registration.  Limited in-person registration for Levittown UFSD residents begins Monday, May 4, at 9:00 a.m. at the Reference Desk.

American Museum of Natural History

This is a combined trip for adults and families.

(Adults $47.00) (Seniors $42.00) (Children Ages 2 to 12 $37.00) includes:  

bus, entrance into museum, ticket to the 3D Imax movie, and all gratuities.

We will depart from the library at 9:30 a.m. for the museum.  The museum features 45 permanent halls and the Rose Center for Earth and Space. Take a self tour through the halls of Theodore Roosevelt, whales, dinosaurs, birds and reptiles, mammals, fossils, precious gems, marine life, and so much more.  Lunch will be on your own, either inside the museum at the cafeteria or two cafes, or dine on your own outside the museum.  Included in our trip is the 3D Imax movie Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Secret Ocean that features breathtaking underwater sequences.  We will depart at 3:00 p.m. to return to the library by approximately 5:00 p.m. 

In-person ticket sale for Levittown UFSD residents begins on Tuesday, May 19, at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Room.  Limit 4 tickets per patron. Non-refundable payment is due at the time of registration.  Money order or check accepted (no cash), made payable to the Levittown Public Library.

Please note that all bus trips are subject to a minimum registration.  Trip itineraries may be subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances.  Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.  Bus-trip participants must be at the designated point of departure at the appointed time.  The bus will not wait for latecomers.
