GMOs:  Facts & Myths

Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room

Join Margaret McGrrath to learn about GMO facts and myths.  GMOs are genetically modified organisms (plants, animals, or micro-organsisms) in which the genetic material (DNA) has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally.  Tomatoes, potatoes, squash, corn, sugar beets, and soybeans have been genetically altered through biotechnology.  One of the reasons stated for GM foods is to improve crop protection.  At the McGrath Lab and Field Program:  Biology and Management of Dieseases and Vegetable Crops Grown on Long Island, the goal is to improve the management of diseases affecting fresh market vegetable crops grown on Long Island.  The "lab" exists mostly outdoors in both research and commercial production fields and Margaret McGrath is the Associate Professor leading the way to improve the mangagement of diseases of crops grown on Long Island.
