READING PARTNERS: A Marcellus Free Library Community Outreach Program. MFL would like to partner with MCSD families in helping their young children develop necessary early literacy skills. Participating families will receive an interchangeable bag filled with age-appropriate library books that they may read together with their infant or preschooler. For more information, please call Program Coordinator Penny Anderson at 673-7067 or Cheryl Ferris at 673-3221.

'FIZZ, BOOM, READ @ MFL'.  Kids, pick up your Scientist's Secret Lit Log, explore a good book, and record what you've read.  Come in once a week for the next six weeks, get your Lit Log stamped, and pick a prize.  For every five books/chapters read, receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of several assorted gift arrangements.  Registration required.  June 30th - August 8th.  For kids pre-K to grade 5.

Check out the Investigation Station ~ an opportunity to experiment with and examine different scientific and mathematical concepts.

Join local chess champ Jeffrey Shi for a special chess club this summer. Everyone age 8 and up is welcome to join the Marcellus Free Library Chess Club, regardless of skill level. Jeffrey Shi has achieved the US Chess Federation’s 1925 rating (class A), and been a 2-time Onondaga County scholastic champion, as well as placing 30th in the US National Blitz and 19th in NY State. He will be happy to teach chess skills to beginners, and experienced players can come and sharpen their skills. The Chess Club will meet in the library’s café area on Wednesday nights at 6:30, beginning July 2.

Summer Tech Club with Mr. English.  Four consecutive evenings, August 18, 19, 20, 21st at 6:30 pm. Space is limited.  Open to students entering 7th grade and up.  Be part of a team that creates a crazy Rube Golberg assembly line.  First you will learn about gears and pulleys, how they work, and all the six simple machines. Then each group will build a contraption that will have to pass a marble or ping pong ball onto the next group to finally make it to the end of the assembly. Join us for hands-on STEM fun!
