This program is for teens ages 13+ and adults. We'll read from different genres chosen by group members. Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger

It's one thing to learn to curtsy properly. It's quite another to learn to curtsy and throw a knife at the same time. Welcome to Finishing School.
Fourteen-year-old Sophronia is a great trial to her poor mother. Sophronia is more interested in dismantling clocks and climbing trees than proper manners--and the family can only hope that company never sees her atrocious curtsy. Mrs. Temminnick is desperate for her daughter to become a proper lady. So she enrolls Sophronia in Mademoiselle Geraldine's Finishing Academy for Young Ladies of Quality.

But Sophronia soon realizes the school is not quite what her mother might have hoped. At Mademoiselle Geraldine's, young ladies learn to finish...everything. Certainly, they learn the fine arts of dance, dress, and etiquette, but the also learn to deal out death, diversion, and espionage--in the politest possible ways, of course. Sophronia and her friends are in for a rousing first year's education.
Set in the same world as the Parasol Protectorate, this YA series debut is filled with all the saucy adventure and droll humor Gail's legions of fans have come to adore.

Calling all lovers of teen literature! If you like to talk about books, then join us the last Tuesday of each month (except July and December) for fun discussion and a snack. This program is for teens ages 13+ and adults. We'll read from different genres chosen by group members. If you have questions, contact Jess Bacon, Teen Librarian.  If you would like to join, simply stop by the circulation desk and ask for a B.L.T. book.  Read it and come to the meeting!

This month's book: The Hero's Guide to Saving Your Kingdom by Christopher Healy

Prince Liam. Prince Frederic. Prince Duncan. Prince Gustav. You’ve never heard of them, have you? These are the princes who saved Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White, and Rapunzel, respectively, and yet, thanks to those lousy bards who wrote the tales, you likely know them only as Prince Charming. But all of this is about to change.

Rejected by their princesses and cast out of their castles, the princes stumble upon an evil plot that could endanger each of their kingdoms. Now it’s up to them to triumph over their various shortcomings, take on trolls, bandits, dragons, witches, and other assorted terrors, and become the heroes no one ever thought they could be.

Christopher Healy’s Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom is a completely original take on the world of fairy tales, the truth about what happens after “happily ever after.” It’s a must-have for middle grade readers who enjoy their fantasy adventures mixed with the humor of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. Witty black-and-white drawings by Todd Harris add to the fun.

Learn about the history of video games and find out what it's like to develop a game using SCRATCH (2-hr session, age 11 and above).

This workshop is aimed towards educating teens about the history of video games and giving them a taste of team-based game development. This workshop includes an exhibit on early video games. The presentation will explain how early computers, video games and gaming equipment were made. Students will then team up to form "gaming studios" and learn how to create animations/games with the popular SCRATCH program developed by MIT (www.scratch.mit.edu)

Saving seeds is a great way of preserving plants that perform well in this area, and also getting next year's plants for free!  Learn how to tell if a plant will "breed true", and also how to collect and preserve seeds for next year's garden and harvest.

Come and learn how to save the seeds from your garden to use next year!  Save money and knowledge by growing plants you "know" year after year!  Gretel Anspach, Lifetime Master Gardener, will give a talk and answer your questions!

Gretel Anspach is a Trustee of Mass Hort, a Lifetime Master Gardener, past-president of the Massachusetts Master Gardener Association and a systems engineer for Raytheon. Gretel is also a member of the Garden to Table committee at Mass Hort and helped to establish and maintain a food production garden at Raytheon that has provided fresh produce to the Marlboro Food Pantry for five years.

Interested in writing?  Want to meet other writers and get feedback on your work?  If so, please join us at the Marlborough Public Library!  We're a group of writers -- some published, some just starting to learn the craft -- who meet the 3rd Friday of every month (except December).  Come for inspiration, come for the feedback, come to share your writing!  To register, email Jess Bacon at jbacon@cwmars.org.  This group is free and open to the public.  All writers are welcomed!
