Illinois adults age 50 and over can showcase a lifetime of knowledge and demonstrate their spelling skills through three levels of spelling competition: local, regional, and the State Finals. The local competition will be held on Wednesday,  March 16, at 10 am, at the Library. The winner and runner up of the Local Bee will go on to compete at the Regional Spelling Bee; date and location to be announced in April.

In order to get ready for the local competition, two practice sessions will be held at MGPL. Drop in at either or both of the practice sessions. 

Culver's of Morton Grove is co-sponsoring the local bee and will donate prizes for winning spellers.

Another practice session will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 10-11 am.

In recent years, the tiny Mexican village of Tres Camarones has been losing its men to the lure of good jobs in the U.S. Beautiful 19-year old Nayeli decides to leave her home for "el Norte," where she plans to find and ultimately bring home seven men to repopulate and protect Tres Camarones. With encouragement from the women left behind and accompanied by three friends, Nayeli marches north, where she finds far more than she'd been looking for (NoveList Plus).

Nothing says comfort in the winter than a warm scarf and hat. We are looking for knitters and crocheters who are willing to make scarves and/or hats for charity. Plan to join us with your needles/hooks and enthusiasm. Completed items made will be donated to the Niles and Maine Township Food Pantries.

During this hour-long fun and informative demonstration, Chef Michael Niksic will teach about cooking with chocolate. Examples of chocolate will be shown and TASTED, and recipes will be shared so participants can bring their chocolate-making skills home! Samples will be on hand and Chef Niksic will cover handling, storage, melting, uses and misuses of chocolate in the discussion.
