Come to the Library for a day of fun as we celebrate reading with a variety of exciting activities.
Featured Speakers! Meet Candace Fleming, author of books such as Amelia Lost, The Lincolns, Muncha! Muncha! Muncha! and many more! Skype with Jim Benton, author of the popular Dear Dumb Diary and Franny K. Stein series for kids.
Informative! Explore the latest reading apps, sign up to get customized reading recommendations, discover digital books for kids, learn about eReaders and MyMediaMall, participate in a catalog scavenger hunt, win prizes and more!
Interactive! Do you have a favorite book you're excited to share? Record a book recommendation and have your photo taken for a READ poster! Or see if you can make it through all the questions in "Who Wants to Be a Book Whiz?" You'll earn a prize with each correct answer. We'll have questions ready for kids, teens and adults alike!
Fun! Head outside to enjoy the sunshine and create your own work of art by drawing a scene from your favorite story in chalk, and join us inside for storytime on the stage. Dress up as your favorite book character and show off your costume in a parade around the Library!

Planting Party: West Side of MGPL
|
|
| |
|
This summer, MGPL will have two garden boxes on the lawn west of the building (Georgiana St.). Children will be growing seeds, having worm races, and learning about plants and flowers. Adults will be experimenting with different styles of vertical gardening and will be growing vegetables and flowers that can climb or that have vines. Join us for a planting party; we'll be planting seeds and tomato plants. Rain date: Tues., May 29, at 4 pm.
Get in touch with your inner gardener! Join the MGPL Golden Trowel Club! Volunteer gardeners (a green thumb is not required) are needed to help train the growing vines, remove weeds, and harvest the vegetables that are grown. Share your knowledge - and learn from others - at weed and weather workshops, shade seminars, and educational garden-related events throughout the summer and early fall. Call Nancy B., Coordinator of Programming, at 847-929-5122 to volunteer your time and expertise.
