The kick off event for Summer Reading 2014 is Science in Motion  with a performance by Robert Rivest.

Science in Motion is a mesmerizing blend of comedy and science tht enthralls both children and adults. Robert Rivest comically explores how scientists and artists see the world around us. Through an exciting use of mime, comedy and informative science tie-ins, Robert Rivest inspires his audience to see science in a new light.

This event is open to all ages and will be held at the Town Hall so that we will have room for everyone.

Join Children's Librarian, Miss Amanda for stories, rhymes, songs, movement and creativity including a simple art project or coloring sheet that are all part of this program for kids and the grown-ups who bring the! Best for ages 3 to 6 but older and younger siblings are welcome. A different science theme each week will be explored. After the 30 minute formal program, there is time for adults and kids to socialize and enjoy a small snack in the room.

The fun may be moved outside if weather permits.

No registration necessary.

Join us on the rug as the Children's Librarian teaches us nursery rhymes, finger rhymes, songs and stories using puppets, felt pieces, shakes, bells or scarves! Mother Goose on the Loose is a rhyme filled program promoting early literacy with children from 0 through 2 years old. Small ones participate with their grown-ups learning rhymes, songs and hearing stories.The program is followed by playtime in the room allowing kids and adults to interact with each other and the toys provided by the library. Program is free and no advance sign-up is needed. Program begins promptly at 10:30 and concludes in 20 to 25 minutes. After that families stay in the room to talk and play!

Tivy & Vi love having children read to them and are very loving and accepting of all individuals. Children will be able to read in a relaxed and non-judgmental atmosphere.

Each 20-minute session will include a meet and greet and then reading time. Please feel free to bring your favorite books to read or to borrow some from the library.

Call or come into the library to sign up for one or more sessions. You can sign up for multiple sessions, but please do so for only 2 or 3 weeks at a time so we can accommodate as many participants as possible. Signups begin June 19th.

Learning about science is fun? Absolutely! Combining math, science, and art, How to Catch a Mouse has entertained literally hundreds of audiences! With the aid of audience volunteers, the mechanics of simple machines are explained, while constructing a working Rube Goldberg-style mousetrap intended to solve the problem of a mouse on the loose. Then, with the students’ newfound knowledge of how machines work and their eagerness to see their trap set in motion, this show comes to an exciting and hilarious conclusion that reinforces both the power of learning and the power of applying the lessons to everyday life. It’s a zany good time that makes learning fun!

Songs and movement, relating to inventors and planet zones will be played as well as a teamwork project of building with solo cups. There will be time for Art and some interesting activities to do for each family to bring home and continue to be Scientists there.
