This is the third facilitated meeting of the Region 5 Health and Medical Coordinating Coalitions. This initiative is being brought forward by the MA Department of Public Health Office of Preparedness and Emergency Management and will help prepare the Commonwealth for emergency situations.  For more information, please visit www.bu.edu/sph-coalitions.  Boston University School of Public Health is contracted with the Commonwealth to plan and facilitated these meetings.

"These multidisciplinary HMCC will carry out the functions of healthcare coalitions as described in the documents Healthcare Preparedness Capabilities released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) and Public Health Preparedness Capabilities as released by the U.S. Department of health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Development of these HMCC will simultaneously respond to changing national priorities and fill a critical gap in the current system in Massachusetts that exists because of a general lack of functioning county government or other regional infrastructure. During an emergency, the HMCC will serve a multi-agency coordination function for agencies within a region, providing for more efficient coordination of health and medical activities under Emergency Support Function 8 (ESF-8) across all phases of the disaster cycle: preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation."

First-time novelist Alex Myers will be the guest of the Middleboro Historical Association and will be speak about one of our town’s own -- Deborah Sampson. The young woman, who disguised herself as a man and joined the continental army in 1782, is the subject of his new book, “Revolutionary.” Through the genre of historical fiction, Myers brings Sampson alive during her days in Middleboro and her time serving in the Fourth Massachusetts Regiment. “The New York Times” writes, “This is a bona fide and unforgettable Revolutionary War novel…[An] approachable, imaginative novel, a tale of muskets and masquerade, of marches and mutiny, that is also as an evocative portrayal of life in the Continental Army…Remarkable.”
