Fans of the The Delvena Theatre Company's "Meet Julia Child!" show last January will be happy to hear that the acting troupe is returning this month with their performance of "Lizzie Borden and the 40 Whacks."

On a scorching hot day in Fall River, back in August of 1892, a heinous crime occurred.  Spinster Lizzie Borden was accused, tried, and acquitted for the vicious axe murders of her father and stepmother. This true unsolved mystery has fascinated people for more than 100 years. Two people died on that day in 1892, but Lizzie continues to live on in American folklore.

The live performance includes a mock trial that invites the audience to participate by questioning Lizzie, and voting on her guilt or innocence.  This “edutainment” production features Lynne Moulton and Joseph Zamparelli in multiple roles depicting Lizzie’s story and educating the audience members so that they may be informed “jurists”. Did she or didn’t she?  Let the audience be the judge.

The cast opens up to the audience for discussion after the performance.

PLEASE NOTE: This production is not recommended for children younger than 10 years old.

The Delvena Theatre Company has been entertaining audiences for more than 20 years with plays that are thought-provoking, often humorous, and always enriching.

Join us for an evening of mystery, suspense and mindbending entertainment.

Rory Raven has had a life-long interest in all things psychic and paranormal, leading him to a career as a mentalist and mindbender. His goal is to reproduce the kind of effects parapsychologists have been researching for years – only he wants to do them live and onstage.

As Rory says, “I'm skeptical about paranormal activity. But a background in theater and an interest in esoteric subjects help me to bend the audience’s minds.”

Rory has performed everywhere from Salem and Manhattan to Istanbul, and he's performed for everyone from college students, bar patrons, and educational groups, to nightclub crowds, champion bridge players, and even a coven of witches.

Throughout his travels, Rory says that one thing has always intrigued him. “What I find interesting is that everyone has an opinion about whether or not telepathy exists. The great thing is that you don't have to believe in order to find mentalism compelling, any more than you have to believe that the actor onstage really is a melancholy Danish prince in order to get completely caught up in that experience. Remember, we're in the Theater of the Mind, and not just my mind... but yours as well.”

Suitable for adults and older teens.

Come speak (via Skype) with author Deb Caletti and hear about her new book for adults, What's Become of Her, and about her life as an author.  She'll also answer questions from the audience.

The Skype call with Caletti will run from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  Then everyone is invited to stay until 8:00 p.m.to join Ellie and Her Bookies for a discussion of Caletti's book, He's Gone.

This month’s selection is "He's Gone" by Deb Caletti. "On Sunday morning after a wild party, Dani wakes up alone and hopes her husband has gone to get coffee and muffins. A little later, she thinks maybe he is angry about a tiff the night before and decided to spend Sunday at work. It isn’t until dark is falling and she finds his car in the parking lot near their home that she begins to worry. What follows are agonizing days of searching and hoping. Did something awful happen, or is his disappearance voluntary? Neither answer is comforting, and Dani proceeds to rethink every moment of their marriage, from their first meeting to the party right before his disappearance. -- Booklist
