Let's close out our "Exercise Your Mind" Adult Summer Reading Program with a bang!  Join us for an evening of mystery, suspense and mindbending entertainment.

Rory Raven has had a life-long interest in all things psychic and paranormal, leading him to a career as a mentalist and mindbender. His goal is to reproduce the kind of effects parapsychologists have been researching for years – only he wants to do them live and onstage.

As Rory says, “I'm skeptical about paranormal activity. But a background in theater and an interest in esoteric subjects help me to bend the audience’s minds.”

Rory has performed everywhere from Salem and Manhattan to Istanbul, and he's performed for everyone from college students, bar patrons, and educational groups, to nightclub crowds, champion bridge players, and even a coven of witches.

Throughout his travels, Rory says that one thing has always intrigued him. “What I find interesting is that everyone has an opinion about whether or not telepathy exists. The great thing is that you don't have to believe in order to find mentalism compelling, any more than you have to believe that the actor onstage really is a melancholy Danish prince in order to get completely caught up in that experience. Remember, we're in the Theater of the Mind, and not just my mind... but yours as well.”

Suitable for adults and older teens.

Barbour has been cooking professionally in the Boston area since 1992 and started "Liz Barbour's Creative Feast" in 2004. Her cooking demonstrations and recipes have been featured on "New Hampshire Chronicle," "Cook's Corner" (on channel 9), and in various publications including "New Hampshire Magazine."  Liz is an avid home gardener and often uses her own fresh herbs and edible flowers in her cooking demos.

Liz shares her skills as a working chef and entertaining communicator whose relaxed and humorous attitudes toward food demystify the cooking process. Sit back and watch while she prepares and presents exciting dishes for you and your friends to enjoy, while focusing on basic cooking techniques, knife skills, healthy ingredient combinations, and the use of herbs and spices to enhance flavors.

Fans of the The Delvena Theatre Company's "Meet Julia Child!" show last January will be happy to hear that the acting troupe is returning this month with their performance of "Lizzie Borden and the 40 Whacks."

On a scorching hot day in Fall River, back in August of 1892, a heinous crime occurred.  Spinster Lizzie Borden was accused, tried, and acquitted for the vicious axe murders of her father and stepmother. This true unsolved mystery has fascinated people for more than 100 years. Two people died on that day in 1892, but Lizzie continues to live on in American folklore.

The live performance includes a mock trial that invites the audience to participate by questioning Lizzie, and voting on her guilt or innocence.  This “edutainment” production features Lynne Moulton and Joseph Zamparelli in multiple roles depicting Lizzie’s story and educating the audience members so that they may be informed “jurists”. Did she or didn’t she?  Let the audience be the judge.

The cast opens up to the audience for discussion after the performance.

PLEASE NOTE: This production is not recommended for children younger than 10 years old.

The Delvena Theatre Company has been entertaining audiences for more than 20 years with plays that are thought-provoking, often humorous, and always enriching.

This month’s selection is "A Perfect Match" by Jill McGown. "The news rocked the town. A woman's body found in a boathouse. And the woman's last known companion Missing Presumed Fled. To the people of Stansfield it's an open and shut case. But Detective Inspector Lloyd - teamed up once more with Sergeant Judy Hill - isn't so quick to jump to conclusions." -Amazon.  Newcomers to the group are welcomed to attend!
