Dan Clark, the "Singing Trooper", and his wife, opera singer Mary Clark will perform a one-hour concert of Irish music to get us all in the mood for St. Patrick's Day!  Mr. Clark has performed in uniform in many, many venues while representing the Commonwealth of Massachusetts during his 20-year career.  During his tenure with the State Police, he performed at more than 2500 events for Federal, State, Local and Military functions.  He sang 26 foreign National Anthems, in native dialect, for visiting dignitaries and sporting events.  He also could be heard on "Radio Disney" as "Trooper Dan" while promoting safety to children.  Mary Colarusso Clark, a coloratura soprano, is a graduate of the Boston Conservatory of Music, holding a Bachelors Degree in Vocal Performance.  Since graduation, she has been the lead soprano for both the Lowell Opera and Boston Bel Canto Opera companies.  She has also performed with the Boston Classical Orchestra and the Boston Civic Symphony, and was featured by Joyce Kulhaywick on her Channel 5 WCVB Arts and Entertainment segment.  In the Fall of 2005 Mary and Dan performed for former President and First Lady George and Barbara Bush as part of their efforts during the Bush-Clinton Katrina Relief.  She has also sang the National Anthem for the NE Patriots, Boston Bruins, Boston Celtics, Boston Marathon, and aboard the USS Constitution.  This program is free and open to the public, is appropriate for all ages, and light refreshments will be served.

Milton author Hallie Ephron will talk about her new book called "Night Night, Sleep Tight" in a one-hour presentation.  New York Times best selling author Ephron's novels have been called "gripping" by the Boston Globe, "snaky, unsettling" by the Seattle Times, and filled with "intensive, sustaining suspense" by the Lansing State Journal.  With this new novel, she delivers her most captivating mystery yet, tinged with Hollywood glamour and set in a town where fame and infamy are often interchangeable.  Los Angeles 1985: Deirdre Unger makes the drive from San Diego to Beverly Hills to help her screenwriter father put his dilapidated house on the market.  She is expecting to deal with his usual kvetching and dark moods, but she gets a lot more than she expected.  In a cruel Sunset Boulevard-ian twist, Deirdre arrives home to find her father face down in his too-small swimming pool - dead.  To find out more, come to this event and hear more about the plot by the author.  Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing also.  This program is free and open to all, and is sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library.

There will be a film screening tonight of the documentary Girl Rising.  This is a program appropriate for both a young adult and adult audience.   Travel the globe to meet nine unforgettable girls - striving beyond circumstance, pushing past limits.  Their dreams, their voices, their incredible stories are captured in a film about the strength of the human spirit and the power of education to changed the world.  Girls featured include Ruksana, an Indian pavement-dweller whose father sacrificies his own basic needs for his daughter's dreams; Sokha, an orphan who rises from a life in a Cambodian landfill to become a star student and accomplished dancer; and Suma, who writes songs to help her endure forced servitude in Nepal and today crusades to liberate others.   More than a film, Girl Rising is the heart of a movement that is spreading around the world promoting this powerful truth: educating girls in the developing world can transform families, communities, entire countries and break the cycle of poverty in just one generation.  Please join us for a very inspiring evening to view this excellent documentary.  And please bring your teen daughters along.   The film is rated PG13 for thematic material including disturbing images, and the running time is 103 minutes.  It will start promptly at 6:30 PM.  The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library.

Tonight there will be a free screening of the very entertaining film, "The Hundred Foot Journey."  Starring Academy Award winner Helen Mirren, produced by Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey and Juliet Blake, and directed by Lasse Hallstrom, this uplifting story bursts with flavor, passion and heart.  When the chilly chef proprietress of the Michelin-starred French restaurant in southern France gets wind of a culinary immigrant opening an Indian restaurant just 100 feet from her own, her icy protests escalate to all-out war between the two establishments.  It's a celebration of triumph over exile as these two worlds collide and one young man tries to find the comfort of home in every pot - wherever he may be  The movie is rated PG for thematic elements, some violence, language and brief sensuality, but it is appropriate for all ages.  The running time is 122 minutes and this program is sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library.
