During the month of April, the library will host a talented photographer in our Wotiz Gallery.  Peter Jackson is a landscape architect who lives in Milton with his wife Donna Dickerson, and their two great boys were raised in town, but now reside elsewhere.  Mr. Jackson's love of landscape and nature is the basis for his work in park and open space planning and design.  His personal philosophy to "make the world a better place....every day" is pursued through his professional work, photography hobby, and commitment to public service.  There will be a free and open reception for this exhibit on Thursday, April 3rd from 6 to 8 PM.  Please come to the library this month to enjoy this colorful and beautiful display.

misc_none 2:00 PM  -  3:00 PM A cappella Concert with Boston Jazz Voices     Tell a Friend
    Contact: Jean Hlady   (617) 698-5757

For the last concert in our spring season, the wonderful group "Boston Jazz Voices" will entertain all ages with their blended repertoire of jazzy standards. It was almost 25 years ago that the seeds of Boston Jazz Voices were sown by a group of renegade barbershop singers who got together to venture beyond the confines of single-sex four-part harmony.  The unique and unmistakable sound of Gene Puerling inspired this mixed group of vocal enthusiasts.  Well known for his singing and arranging for the Hi-Lo's and the Singers Unlimited, Puerling became the raison d'etre for this newly formed group.  His arrangements are characterized by complex and unexpected harmonic twists that make even the most familiar tunes sound new to the ear.  Gene Puerling passed away in 2008, but his imprint on vocal jazz lives on.  Those who have followed the group over the years will remember them as New England Close Harmony Ensemble, and what first began as a rehearsal group has evoled into a sophisticated performing group that has reached and touched audiences far and wide.  The focus is on jazz arrangements from the American songbook, and more recently, jazzed-up versions of a more diverse repertoire of songs, which creates a unique combination of those classic sounds, plus contemporary vocal jazz idiom.   This free concert is sponsored by The Friends of the Milton Public Library, and light refreshments will be served.  You don't want to miss this one!  Join us for a fun hour.

Based upon the best-selling novel by Markus Zusak, this profoundly moving story is of a girl who transforms the lives of those around her during World War II, Germany.  Although Liesel is illiterate when she is adopted by a German couple, her adoptive father encourages her to learn to read.  Ultimately, the power of words helps Liesel and Max, a Jew hiding in the family's home, escape from the events unfolding around them.  This free program is sponsored by The Friends of the Milton Public Library.  The movie is rated PG13 for some violence and intense depiction of thematic material and it is 131 minutes long.  Please join us for an inspiring film.

Knit, create, and make new friends!  Knitters of all experience levels are invited to twice-monthly drop-in workshops with experienced knitter Nina Zonnevylle. Bring your own materials and projects. Attend one meeting or all. The casual knitting socials will be held from September through November.  Sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Library, the workshops are free.   Mark your calendars.  Each month the first Thursday evening and the third Saturday morning are sure to accommodate most schedules.    Milton resident Nina Zonnevylle holds a B.S. degree in Education, with a concentration in studio arts, from SUNY, Geneseo, where she spent most of her senior year in the weaving studio and studied under fiber artists Deb Kaufman and Jan Jackson.  For years afterwards, she has worked on techniques in weaving, spinning hand-made yarns, and knitting.  Awarded a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, she studied to perfect her skill in handspinning, using both a drop spindle and her trusty Ashford wheel, and organized a fiber festival to share what she learned with the community.    Questions?  Contact Nina Zonnevylle at nzonnevylle@gmail.com

These are storytimes created for children with Sensory Integration Issues, Autism Spectrum Disorders or other Developmental Delays ALONG WITH their typically developing peers and siblings.  Join us for fine/gross motor activities, songs and wonderful stories.  A predictable, visual schedule will guide our sessions.  We ask that an adult accompany each child to foster success for all participants.  This storytime is geared for children ages 3-5.  If other storytimes have not been the right fit for your child, this may be just what you were looking for.

Space is limited.  Registration is required (separately for each program) through the library’s on-line calendar at www.miltonlibrary.org or call the Children’s Room at the Milton Public Library (617) 898-4957.

Our program presenter Kerri O'Keefe Brosnan (Miss Kerri) has worked as a Children's Librarian for the past five years at the Needham Free Library.  Prior to that, she taught Special Education at the elementary level for several years.  She has combined her unique skill set and developed a Sensory Storytime to help bring Children's Literature to all and to make the library experience accessible to all learners.  Miss Kerri has an M.Ed in Moderate Special Needs from Simmons Collegeand is certified as a School Librarian.
