    Contact: Jean Hlady   (617) 698-5757

Local photographer George Watson will display his work in the Wotiz Gallery during the month of July.  Mr. Watson has been taking photographs for 60+ years, as he first used a camera in 1938 and now he modifies many of these images as digital pictures recently created in Photoshop.  This exhibit will show how the reverse-color process and Color Key film was ued to manipulate images before the advent of the personal computer and digital photography.  Works on display will be primarily black and white, and will include pictorial, panoramic, and portrait photographs.  Mr. Watson joined the Photographic Society of America (PSA) and the Boston and South Shore Camera Clubs in 1965.  He has exhibited in PSA-sponsored salons in the U.S. and 29 foreign countries, achieving PSA star ratings in nature and photo-travel slides and color print divisions, and Galaxy rating in color slides.  In 1967, Mr. Watson was among the top 25 exhibitors of color slides in the world.  Please come and view this lovely display during July.

Readers' Theatre is a a type of drama performed by "readers" who read from a script and do not have to memorize lines.  Performed with minimal costumes, sets and props, readers' theatre can be not only a great introduction to theatre for kids, but it's also a great way to practice one's oral reading skills, build confidence, and have fun with friends at the same time!

This summer, Miss Sara is leading a Readers' Theatre Club for students entering grades 2-4.  Each week participants will play theatre games, tackle different scripts based on well-known children's books, and make crafts to supplement the stories we're telling together.  The Club will meet six times over the course of the summer, and each meeting will culminate with a performance for family and friends.  While this is a drop-off program, parents/caregivers are asked to return 15 minutes before the end of each class (at 3:45) so they can see the show!

Students must be fluent readers who have completed first grade.  Registration is required and will open three weeks before the event.

The Milton Public Schools, the Milton Public Library, and the Milton Early Childhood Alliance invite you to Summertime Stories: outdoor storytimes at Milton community locations!

Miss Sara, the Milton Public Library Children’s Librarian will read stories, sing songs, and engage children at four sessions around town this summer. If the weather is nice, bring a blanket because we’ll be outside. If it is rainy, we’ll meet indoors. Parents/caregivers must remain with and look after their child – these are not drop-off events.Registration is not required, however, you will need to sign in upon arrival.

Held on four Thursdays at 10:00 AM: July 2nd and August 6 at Tucker Elementary School, and July 16th and August 20th at Cunningham Hall. RAIN OR SHINE! For families with their children ages birth to six years old.

Pianist/composer Deborrah Wyndham, who has given over 3,000 past performances,  plays a wide variety of music from ragtime and other early jazz styles to original contemporary music.  With appearances on FOX, NBC and ABC, listeners have described her playing as sounding "like four hands."  Deborah performs regularly throughout the U.S. and her many venues have included lots of public libraries!   The program she will perform on this date is called "The History of Ragtime" and it is described as follows:  "Through music, Deborrah Wyndham shares the history of our nation's first 'pop' music:  ragtime.  Also the beginnings of jazz, ragtime has gone on to influence many other musicians and styles of music.  With different ethnic musical influences and at first rejected by society for its unusual syncopated rhythm and venues where it was played, ragtime later on received wide acclaim and its popularity spread fast.  Ragtime is an important part of our American musical heritage."   Please join us for a fun hour with a talented musician.  This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library and is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served.
