The Library Program Planners Group meets quarterly to share programming ideas for adults.  At each meeting, after introductions, we simply go around the room and discuss two successful programs  recently held at our libraries.  Within a week of the meeting, we  email details of all the programs we've held in the past three months to the group's secretary, who distributes the list to the group.

While the group consists mainly of librarians from MVLC, NOBLE and southern New Hampshire, membership is open to all.  Even if you can't attend the meetings, you can still contribute to and benefit from the group's list-serv and blog, both very helpful resources when program planning.  The blog, for example, has more than 1,000 reviews, fee information and contact information for authors, speakers and performers.

No registration is required to attend the meetings, but you must be a member of the group.  Contact group facilitator Robert Hayes (rhayes@tewksburypl.org) to join the group.

The Northeastern Readers' Advisory Round Table reads the same Subject in both Nonfiction & Fiction over the summer to be discussed in September.

We completed a three-part arc in Historical Non-Fiction and top it off by reading Historical Fiction/Nonfiction duo on the same topic.

The Benchmarks: Everyone reads Janet Wallach’s Desert Queen: The Extraordinary Life of Gertrude Bell, Advisor to Kings, Ally of Lawrence of Arabia. (1997) OR Georgina Howell’s Queen of the Desert, Shaper of Nations (2008) NONFICTION BIOGRAPHY and Mary Doria Russell’s Dreamers of the Day. HISTORICAL FICTION.

Please read 2nd titles on the same Subject in both Nonfiction & Fiction. Suggested List on Blog.

Appeal to be read for September 2017 meeting: Focus on all the appeal factors, but really think about frame: place, time, and tone and the appeal differences between nonfiction and fiction.

Meeting every other month, the NE RA RT reads from one genre--and then discusses the appeal of that genre with each other emphasizing the building of a skill set of appeal categories and familiarity of genre particulars. They cover a different genre every meeting, allowing each of the participants to be introduced to the discipline of reading for appeal, as well as an initiation to broad genre categories. Everyone participating will be able to share analysis of titles and authors in unfamiliar genres that will stretch their capicity as readers' advisors.  The discussion leaders are Leane Ellis (ellis@noblenet.org) and Nanci Milone Hill (nhill@mvlc.org).
