Welcome to the Western Region Program Planners group.

We meet quarterly throughout the year to discuss and share information about programming for libraries in the western region. The first 90 minutes are spent discussing programs, with the last 30 minutes focused on a topic related to programming. This group is primarily for sharing adult programming ideas, but membership is open to all interested.

The goal of this group is to discuss and present information about program ideas, content, presenters, and costs. The group aims to be a sounding board and information finding tool for library programmers. Please bring 2 - 3 "examples" of successful programs that you’ve held in the previous 3 months at your library. An evaluation form, to be completed for each program, will be sent out a week before the meeting.

If you like access to our private blog or have any questions, please reach out to Lyndsay Johnson - lyjohnson@cwmars.org or Wendy McAnanama - wmcananama@agawamlibrary.org

The Northeastern Readers' Advisory Round Table reads the same Subject in both Nonfiction & Fiction over the summer to be discussed in September.

We completed a three-part arc in Historical Non-Fiction and top it off by reading Historical Fiction/Nonfiction duo on the same topic.

The Benchmarks: Everyone reads Janet Wallach’s Desert Queen: The Extraordinary Life of Gertrude Bell, Advisor to Kings, Ally of Lawrence of Arabia. (1997) OR Georgina Howell’s Queen of the Desert, Shaper of Nations (2008) NONFICTION BIOGRAPHY and Mary Doria Russell’s Dreamers of the Day. HISTORICAL FICTION.

Please read 2nd titles on the same Subject in both Nonfiction & Fiction. Suggested List on Blog.

Appeal to be read for September 2017 meeting: Focus on all the appeal factors, but really think about frame: place, time, and tone and the appeal differences between nonfiction and fiction.

Meeting every other month, the NE RA RT reads from one genre--and then discusses the appeal of that genre with each other emphasizing the building of a skill set of appeal categories and familiarity of genre particulars. They cover a different genre every meeting, allowing each of the participants to be introduced to the discipline of reading for appeal, as well as an initiation to broad genre categories. Everyone participating will be able to share analysis of titles and authors in unfamiliar genres that will stretch their capicity as readers' advisors.  The discussion leaders are Leane Ellis (ellis@noblenet.org) and Nanci Milone Hill (nhill@mvlc.org).
